Bangladesh Ambassador Imran presents credentials to Colombia President: Bogota keen on cooperation with Dhaka in RMG, pharmaceutical sectors
Washington DC, 18 November, 2023 —Bangladesh Ambassador to the United States Mr. Muhammad Imran, concurrently accredited to Colombia, has recently presented his credentials to Hon’ble President of the Republic of Colombia Gustavo Francisco Petro Urrego.
Ambassador Imran formally presented his credentials to the Colombian President at a colorful ceremony held at the Presidential Palace in Bogota, the capital of Colombia, on November 8.
Upon his arrival at the Presidential Palace, the Bangladesh Ambassador was greeted with a Guard of Honor by a smartly turned-out contingent of the Presidential Guard Regiment. He was later introduced to Colombian President Gustavo Francisco Petro Urrego. Acting Foreign Minister Mr. Francisco J. Coy G. and senior officials were present on the occasion.
While presenting the credentials to the Colombian President, the Ambassador conveyed greetings to him from Hon’ble President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The Colombian President reciprocated the greetings to the Bangladesh President and the Prime Minister.
Colombian President Gustavo Francisco welcomed the Bangladesh Ambassador in his country and expressed his satisfaction over the excellent bilateral relations existing between the two countries. He also hoped that the ties would be further consolidated in the coming days.
The Colombian President, from his government, assured the Ambassador of extending all kinds of support to discharge his diplomatic duties.
Later, the Ambassador had a meeting with Ms. Nelsy Raquel Munar Jaramillo, Director for Asia, Africa and Oceania, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Carlos A. Forero, Coordinator, Asia Pacific at the Foreign Office.
During the meeting, they discussed a wide range of bilateral issues and focused on many areas of cooperation. The Ambassador apprised them of Bangladesh’s tremendous socioeconomic progress that took place in the last 15 years under the dynamic and visionary leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Ms. Nelsy Raquel expressed his keen interest in cooperation in ready-made garment (RMG) and pharmaceutical sectors between Bangladesh and Colombia as well as signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on regular Foreign Office Consultations (FOC).

সম্প্রতি কলম্বিয়ার রাজধানী বোগোটায় প্রেসিডেন্সিয়াল প্যালেসে আয়োজিত এক বর্ণাঢ্য অনুষ্ঠানে রাষ্ট্রদূত ইমরান কলম্বিয়ার প্রেসিডেন্টের কাছে আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে তার এই পরিচয়পত্র পেশ করেন।
প্রেসিডেন্সিয়াল প্যালেসে পৌঁছালে প্রেসিডেন্ট গার্ড রেজিমেন্টের একটি চৌকস দল গার্ড অব অনার প্রদানের মাধ্যমে বাংলাদেশের রাষ্ট্রদূতকে স্বাগত জানায়। পরে কলম্বিয়ার প্রেসিডেন্ট গুস্তাভো ফ্রান্সিসকো পেট্রো উরেগোর সাথে তাকে পরিচয় করিয়ে দেয়া হয়। অনুষ্ঠানে ভারপ্রাপ্ত পররাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী জনাব ফ্রান্সিসকো জে কোয় জি (Francisco J. Coy G.) এবং ঊর্ধ্বতন কর্মকর্তাবৃন্দ উপস্থিত ছিলেন।
কলম্বিয়ার প্রেসিডেন্টের কাছে পরিচয়পত্র পেশকালে মান্যবর রাষ্ট্রদূত তার কাছে মহামান্য রাষ্ট্রপতি মোঃ সাহাবুদ্দিন এবং মাননীয় প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনার শুভেচ্ছা পৌঁছে দেন। কলম্বিয়ার প্রেসিডেন্টও বাংলাদেশের রাষ্ট্রপতি ও প্রধানমন্ত্রীকে শুভেচ্ছা জানান।
কলম্বিয়ার প্রেসিডেন্ট তার দেশে বাংলাদেশের রাষ্ট্রদূতকে স্বাগত জানান এবং দুই দেশের মধ্যে বিদ্যমান চমৎকার দ্বিপাক্ষিক সম্পর্কের বিষয়ে সন্তোষ প্রকাশ করেন। তিনি আগামী দিনে এ সম্পর্ক আরও সুদৃঢ় হবে বলে আশাবাদ ব্যক্ত করেন।
কলম্বিয়ার প্রেসিডেন্ট তার সরকারের পক্ষ থেকে বাংলাদেশের রাষ্ট্রদূতকে তার কূটনৈতিক দায়িত্ব পালনে সব ধরনের সহায়তা প্রদানের আশ্বাস দেন।
পরে রাষ্ট্রদূত ইমরান পররাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয়ের এশিয়া, আফ্রিকা ও ওশেনিয়া অঞ্চলের পরিচালক মিজ নেলসি রাকেল মুনার জারামিলো (Nelsy Raquel Munar Jaramillo) এবং পররাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয়ের এশিয়া প্যাসিফিক অঞ্চলের সমন্বয়কারী জনাব কার্লোস এ ফরেরোর (Carlos A. Forero) সঙ্গে বৈঠক করেন।
সাক্ষাতকালে তারা দ্বিপাক্ষিক বিষয়ে বিস্তারিত আলোচনা করেন এবং দুই দেশের মধ্যে অনেক ক্ষেত্রে সহযোগিতার ওপর গুরুত্ব আরোপ করেন। রাষ্ট্রদূত ইমরান মাননীয় প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনার গতিশীল ও দূরদর্শী নেতৃত্বে গত ১৫ বছরে অর্জিত বাংলাদেশের চমৎকার আর্থ-সামাজিক অগ্রগতি সম্পর্কে তাদের অবহিত করেন।
মিজ নেলসি রাকেল বাংলাদেশ ও কলম্বিয়ার মধ্যে তৈরি পোশাক এবং ঔষধ শিল্প খাতে সহযোগিতার পাশাপাশি নিয়মিত ফরেন অফিস কনসালটেশন (এফওসি) আয়োজনে একটি সমঝোতা স্মারক (এমওইউ) স্বাক্ষর করার বিষয়ে গভীর আগ্রহ প্রকাশ করেন।
