কানাডার অটোয়াস্থ বাংলাদেশ হাইকমিশন ‘শহিদ বুদ্ধিজীবী দিবস’ পালন
বাংলাদেশ হাইকমিশন, অটোয়া, কানাডা আজ হাইকমিশন অডিটোরিয়ামে যথাযোগ্য মর্যাদা ও ভাবগাম্ভীর্যের সাথে ’শহিদ বুদ্ধিজীবী দিবস’ পালন করে। মান্যবর হাইকমিশনার ড. খলিলুর রহমানের সভাপতিত্বে হাইকমিশনের অন্যান্য কর্মকর্তা-কর্মচারীদের উপস্থিতিতে এই দিবসটি পালিত হয়।
‘শহিদ বুদ্ধিজীবী দিবস’ উপলক্ষ্যে আয়োজিত অনুষ্ঠানের শুরুতে জাতির পিতা বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান, তাঁর পরিবারের শহিদ সদস্যবৃন্দ, মহান স্বাধীনতা যুদ্ধে শহিদ বুদ্ধিজীবীগণ এবং অন্যান্য বীর মুক্তিযোদ্ধাদের স্মরণে ১ মিনিট নীরবতা পালন করা হয়। দিবসটি উপলক্ষ্যে বাংলাদেশ থেকে প্রেরিত মহামান্য রাষ্ট্রপতি এবং মাননীয় প্রধানমন্ত্রীর বাণী দুটি দূতাবাসের কর্মকর্তারা পাঠ করে শোনান।
অনুষ্ঠানের সভাপতির বক্তব্যে হাইকমিশনার ড. খলিলুর রহমান ১৪ ডিসেম্বর ১৯৭১-কে বাংলাদেশের ইতিহাসে একটি কলঙ্কময় দিন হিসেবে উল্লেখ করে বলেন, স্বাধীনতা যুদ্ধে বাঙালি জাতির নিশ্চিত বিজয় আঁচ করতে পেরে পাক হানাদার বাহিনী দেশের শিক্ষাবিদ, সাংবাদিক, সাহিত্যিক, চিকিৎসক, বিজ্ঞানী, আইনজীবী, শিল্পী, প্রকৌশলী, দার্শনিক ও রাজনৈতিক চিন্তাবিদসহ মেধাবী সন্তানদের নির্মমভাবে হত্যা করে। মান্যবর হাইকমিশনার আরো বলেন, পাক হানাদার বাহিনীর দোসর ও স্বাধীনতা বিরোধী, রাজাকার, আলবদর আলশামস বাহিনী পরিকল্পিতভাবে ১৯৭১ এর ২৫ মার্চ রাত থেকে ১৪ ডিসেম্বর পর্যন্ত বহু বুদ্ধিজীবীকে নৃশংস হত্যাযজ্ঞের মধ্য দিয়ে তাদের পরাজয়ের জঘন্যতম প্রতিশোধ নেয়। বাংলাদেশ যাতে আর কখনো মাথা তুলে দাড়াঁতে না পারে, সেটাই ছিল বুদ্ধিজীবী হত্যাকাণ্ডের মূল লক্ষ্য । মান্যবর হাইকমিশনার আরো বলেন, আসন্ন দ্বাদশ জাতীয় সংসদ নির্বাচনকে কেন্দ্র করে সেই একই স্বাধীনতা বিরোধী শক্তি দেশ বিরোধী ষড়যন্ত্র ও রাজনীতির নামে সহিংসতায় লিপ্ত। তাদেরকে প্রতিহত করা আমাদের সকলের দায়িত্ব বলে তিনি অভিমত ব্যক্ত করেন।
জাতির পিতা বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান, তাঁর পরিবারের শহিদ সদস্যবৃন্দ, শহিদ বুদ্ধিজীবীবৃন্দ এবং শহিদ বীর মুক্তিযোদ্ধাদের আত্মার মাগফিরাত কামনা করে এবং দেশের অব্যাহত শান্তি ও সমৃদ্ধির জন্য বিশেষ দোয়া ও মোনাজাতের মাধ্যমে অনুষ্ঠানের সমাপ্তি হয়।
Bangladesh High Commission in Ottawa Commemorates ‘Martyred Intellectuals Day’ with Dignity and Solemnity.
Today Bangladesh High Commission in Ottawa, Canada observed ‘Martyred Intellectuals Day’ with due respect and solemnity at the High Commission Auditorium. His Excellency the High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Canada, Dr. Khalilur Rahman presided over the event, which was attended by officers and officials of the High Commission.
At the outset of the program, a minute of silence was observed in memory of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, his martyred family members, intellectuals who sacrificed their lives and all 30 lacs martyrs during our war of independence. Following this, officers from the High Commission read out messages of Hon’ble President and Hon’ble Prime Minister marking the day.
In his address as Chair, H.E. the High Commissioner, Dr. Khalilur Rahman recalled 14 December 1971 as a dark day in Bangladesh’s history. He said, Pakistani occupation force with their Bangladeshi accomplice, mercilessly exterminated the nation’s brightest minds, including educators, journalists, writers, doctors, scientists, lawyers, artists, engineers, philosophers, and political thinkers to cripple the nation. The High Commissioner highlighted the systematic massacre of intellectuals by the anti-independence forces, including the Razakars and Al-Badr Al-shams, which commenced from the night of 25 March 1971, and continued until 14 December 1971 two days before the victory. He emphasized that this heinous act was a desperate attempt to inflict revenge for their impending defeat and to hinder Bangladesh’s prosperity.
The High Commissioner also cautioned that the same anti-independence forces, under the plea of political agenda, are now resorting to violence, particularly in the run-up to the 12th National Parliamentary elections. He asserted that it is the collective responsibility of all to stand up against these forces and safeguard the nation’s progress.
The program concluded with special prayers for the souls of the Father of the Nation, martyred intellectuals and martyred freedom fighters.
