Legacy of liberation rekindled in Ottawa on Bangladesh’s Independence and National Day
Ottawa:26 March 2025, The red-and-green flag of Bangladesh ascended above the Bangladesh House in Ottawa’s Rockcliffe Park on March 26, 2025 — marking 54 years since the country declared its independence.
Bangladesh High Commission in Canada commemorated the 54th Independence and National Day of Bangladesh with due fervour and patriotic spirit. The day began with the ceremonial hoisting of the national flag in the morning by the High Commissioner of Bangladesh for Canada Nahida Sobhan. Later in the day, a commemorative program was held at the High Commission auditorium. Messages issued on the occasion by the Hon’ble President, Hon’ble Chief Adviser and Hon’ble Foreign Adviser were read out and a documentary on the July 2024 Uprising was screened at the event. A discussion session on the significance of the day was followed, where the High Commissioner Nahida Sobhan paid profound homage to the martyrs of the Independence War and July Uprising. The High Commissioner emphasized the legacy of Bangladesh’s independence and underscored how its spirit inspired the July Uprising reigniting the people’s demand for justice, equality, and emancipation. She also highlighted the indomitable spirit of our youth, which led the Language Movement, Independence War and the July Uprising.
The commemoration concluded with a special prayer for the departed souls of the martyrs and for the continued peace, progress and prosperity of the people of Bangladesh.
