Foreign Minister Dr Momen joins events of Atlantic Council & IRI in Washington আইআরআই’র অনুষ্ঠানে পররাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী
Washington DC, 12 April, 2023 –Foreign Minister Dr. A. K. Abdul Momen, MP, delivered a keynote speech on emerging Bangladesh and its socioeconomic achievements at an event organised by South Asia Centre of Atlantic Council, a prominent think-tank of the USA, at George Washington University in Washington DC on 11 April.
He also discussed economic partnership and prospects with the USA, and other issues related to economic diplomacy, regional development and navigating relations with major powers.
At the event, the Foreign Minister said Bangladesh has been recognized as a role model of development in the world under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and highlighted its success stories in different sectors.
The talks was followed by a lively question-answer session moderated by Professor Dr. Irfan Nuruddin, Senior Director of the South Asia Center of the Council.
Earlier, Foreign Minister Abdul Momen joined a meeting as the chief guest at the International Republican Institute (IRI) in Washington DC.
At the meeting, he talked about Bangladesh’s political landscape, its electoral process and preparedness for a free, fair and participatory general elections.
The IRI officials expressed their interest to observe the general elections which was cordially welcomed by the Foreign Minister. President of the Institute Mr. Daniel Twining moderated the event.
Bangladesh Ambassador to the USA Mr. Muhammad Imran, Director General (North America) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mr. Khandker Masudul Alam and officials of US state Department and the Bangladesh Embassy were present at the two events.
Earlier, Foreign Minister Dr Momen visited Washington University of Science and Technology (WUST) in Virginia founded by a Bangladeshi entrepreneur.
He delivered a speech as the chief guest at a discussion session organised by the university authorities. The Foreign Minister highly praised the authorities for establishing such a higher educational institution in the USA and wished its overall success.
President of the University Hasan Karaburk and Chancellor and founder Engineer Abubokor Hanip, among others, spoke at the event, while faculty members and students of the university and officials of Bangladesh Embassy were present on the occasion.

ওয়াশিংটন ডিসি পররাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী ড. এ. কে. আব্দুল মোমেন, এমপি, উদীয়মান বাংলাদেশ এবং এর আর্থসামাজিক অর্জনের বিষয়ে গতকাল (11 এপ্রিল) জর্জ ওয়াশিংটন ইউনিভার্সিটিতে যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের খ্যাতনামা থিঙ্ক ট্যাঙ্ক ‘আটলান্টিক কাউন্সিল’-এর সাউথ এশিয়া সেন্টার আয়োজিত এক অনুষ্ঠানে মূল বক্তা হিসেবে বক্তব্য রাখেন করেন।
তিনি মার্কিন যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের সাথে অর্থনৈতিক অংশীদারিত্ব ও সম্ভাবনা, অর্থনৈতিক কূটনীতি, আঞ্চলিক উন্নয়ন এবং প্রধান শক্তিগুলির সাথে সম্পর্ক বিষয় নিয়েও আলোচনা করেন।
অনুষ্ঠানে পররাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী বলেন মাননীয় প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনার নেতৃত্বে বাংলাদেশ সারা বিশ্বে উন্নয়নের রোল মডেল হিসেবে স্বীকৃতি অর্জন করেছে। এ প্রসঙ্গে তিনি চমৎকার আর্থসামাজিক অগ্রগতিসহ বিভিন্ন ক্ষেত্রে দেশের অসাধারণ সাফল্যের গল্প তুলে ধরেন।
পরে তিনি কাউন্সিলের দক্ষিণ এশিয়া কেন্দ্রের সিনিয়র ডিরেক্টর প্রফেসর ডঃ ইরফান নুরুদ্দিনের সঞ্চালনায় একটি প্রাণবন্ত প্রশ্ন-উত্তর পর্বে অংশ নেন।
এর আগে পররাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী আব্দুল মোমেন ওয়াশিংটন ডিসিতে ইন্টারন্যাশনাল রিপাবলিকান ইনস্টিটিউট (আইআরআই) আয়োজিত এক সভায় প্রধান অতিথি হিসেবে যোগ দেন।
সভায় অংশ নিয়ে তিনি বাংলাদেশের রাজনৈতিক দৃশ্যপট, এর নির্বাচনী প্রক্রিয়া এবং একটি অবাধ, সুষ্ঠু ও অংশগ্রহণমূলক সাধারণ নির্বাচনের প্রস্তুতি নিয়ে কথা বলেন।
আইআরআই কর্মকর্তারা বাংলাদেশের সাধারণ নির্বাচন পর্যবেক্ষণে তাদের আগ্রহের কথা প্রকাশ করেন যা পররাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী আন্তরিকভাবে স্বাগত জানান। ইনস্টিটিউটের সভাপতি ড্যানিয়েল টুইনিং সভা সঞ্চালনা করেন।
এ দুটি অনুষ্ঠানে যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে নিযুক্ত বাংলাদেশের রাষ্ট্রদূত জনাব মোহাম্মদ ইমরান, পররাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয়ের মহাপরিচালক (উত্তর আমেরিকা) জনাব খন্দকার মাসুদুল আলম এবং মার্কিন পররাষ্ট্র দপ্তর এবং ওয়াশিংটনস্থ বাংলাদেশ দূতাবাসের কর্মকর্তারা উপস্থিত ছিলেন।
এর আগে পররাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী ড. মোমেন ভার্জিনিয়ায় বাংলাদেশি উদ্যোক্তা প্রতিষ্ঠিত ওয়াশিংটন ইউনিভার্সিটি অব সায়েন্স অ্যান্ড টেকনোলজি (ডব্লিউইউএসটি) পরিদর্শন করেন এবং বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় কর্তৃপক্ষ আয়োজিত আলোচনাসভায় প্রধান অতিথির বক্তব্য রাখেন।
পররাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে এমন একটি উচ্চ শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠান স্থাপনের জন্য এর সাথে সংশ্লিষ্ট সকলের ভূয়সী প্রশংসা করেন এবং এর সার্বিক সাফল্য কামনা করেন।
অনুষ্ঠানে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের প্রেসিডেন্ট হাসান কারাবুর্ক এবং চ্যান্সেলর ও প্রতিষ্ঠাতা ইঞ্জিনিয়ার আবুবকর হানিপ বক্তব্য রাখেন। এই সময় বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের শিক্ষক-শিক্ষার্থী এবং বাংলাদেশ দূতাবাসের কর্মকর্তারা উপস্থিত ছিলেন।
