Celebration of the 104th Birth Anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Children’s Day-2024 by Bangladesh High Commission, Ottawa

Today, on 17 March 2024, Bangladesh High Commission in Ottawa celebrated the 104th Birth Anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Children’s Day 2024 with due solemnity and enthusiasm.
On the first part of the program, in the morning, His Excellency the High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Canada Dr. Khalilur Rahman hoisted the national flag with the playing of national anthem at Bangladesh House. All the officers and officials of the High Commission were present during this flag hoisting ceremony. Following this, a special prayer was offered for the souls of the Father of the Nation and all other martyrs of his family as well as 03 million martyrs of the liberation war.
The second part of the program commenced at 3:00 pm at the premises of the Bangladesh High Commission in Ottawa with the laying of a floral wreath on the portrait of the Father of the Nation by His Excellency the High Commissioner. Subsequently, messages from the Hon’ble President, Hon’ble Prime Minister, and Hon’ble Foreign Minister were read out by the officers of the High Commission. A documentary film sent from Dhaka was then screened in commemoration of the day.
The main discussion session, chaired by HE the High Commissioner commenced with speeches by 03 children from Bangladeshi Community. They expressed their aspirations to emulate Bangabandhu’s love for all people and pledged to engage in community service inspired by his ideals. Leaders of the Bangladeshi Canadian community participating in the discussion remarked, “Bangabandhu’s life of struggle serves as an exemplary source of pride for every Bengali.” They highlighted Bangabandhu’s profound love for children and stressed the importance of imparting the history of his struggle to future generations through the education system and national and social events.
In his address, HE the High Commissioner Dr. Khalilur Rahman paid homage to the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the martyrs of the liberation war. He emphasized the significance of this day in Bangladesh’s national life, stating that Bangladesh owes its existence to Bangabandhu. He highlighted Bangabandhu’s genuine love for children and noted that the initiative to celebrate National Children’s Day on Bangabandhu’s birthday underscores the nation’s commitment to ensuring a safe environment for children. HE the High Commissioner urged all present to foster the non-communal spirit of our war of liberation in nation-building through education, cultural activities, and sports, nurturing a love for the country and its people among children. He called for concerted efforts to create a sustainable and peaceful world for future generations and to treat children with compassion.
Meanwhile, Bangladeshi expatriate children living in different provinces of Canada participated in competitions in two categories to celebrate the occasion. The art competition, themed ‘Bangabandhu and Sonar Bangla,’ was open to children aged 05-12 years, while the essay competition themed ‘Smart Bangladesh,’ was for children aged 10-16 years. HE the High Commissioner announced the winners of both competitions. Special gifts were presented to all children present during the event. The ceremony concluded with the cutting of a cake by the HE the High Commissioner along with the children.

ব্যাপক উৎসাহ ও উদ্দীপনার সাথে বাংলাদেশ হাইকমিশন, অটোয়া কর্তৃক ১৭ মার্চ ২০২৪ তারিখ জাতির পিতা ও স্বাধীনতার মহান স্থপতি বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান-এঁর ১০৪তম জন্মবার্ষিকী ও জাতীয় শিশু দিবস পালন করা হয়। অনুষ্ঠানের অংশ হিসেবে দিবসের শুরুতে সকাল ১০.০০ ঘটিকায় বাংলাদেশ হাউজে জাতীয় সঙ্গীতের সাথে জাতীয় পতাকা উত্তোলন করেন মান্যবর হাইকমিশনার ড. খলিলুর রহমান। এ সময় অত্র হাইকমিশনের সকল কর্মকর্তা ও কর্মচারী উপস্থিত ছিলেন। এরপর বঙ্গবন্ধু ও ১৫ আগস্টে ১৯৭৫ এর সকল শহিদ এবং মহান স্বাধীনতা যুদ্ধের ৩০ লাখ শহিদের আত্মার মাগফিরাত কামনা করে বিশেষ মোনাজাত করা হয়।
দিবসের পরবর্তী কর্মসূচি বাংলাদেশ হাইকমিশনের মিলনায়তনে বিকাল ০৩.০০ ঘটিকায় শুরু হয়। “বঙ্গবন্ধুর স্বপ্ন ধরে, আনব হাসি সবার ঘরে” প্রতিপাদ্য নিয়ে আয়োজিত এ অনুষ্ঠানে সভাপতিত্ব করেন মান্যবর হাইকমিশনার ড. খলিলুর রহমান। শুরুতেই বঙ্গবন্ধুর প্রতিকৃতিতে মান্যবর হাইকমিশনারের নেতৃত্বে পুষ্পস্তবক অর্পণ করে শ্রদ্ধা জানানো হয়। এরপর হাইকমিশনের সংশ্লিষ্ট কর্মকর্তাগণ এ দিবস উপলক্ষে মহামান্য রাষ্ট্রপতি, মাননীয় প্রধানমন্ত্রী ও মাননীয় পররাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রী কর্তৃক প্রদত্ত বাণীগুলো পাঠ করে শোনান। এরপর দিবসটি উপলক্ষে ঢাকা থেকে প্রেরিত একটি প্রামাণ্যচিত্র প্রদর্শন করা হয়।
তিনজন শিশুর বক্তব্যের মাধ্যমে দিবসটি উপলক্ষে আয়োজিত মূল আলোচনা অনুষ্ঠান শুরু হয়। তারা তাদের বক্তব্যে বঙ্গবন্ধুর ন্যায় পৃথিবীর সকল মানুষকে ভালবাসার কথা বলে এবং তাঁর আদর্শে অনুপ্রাণিত হয়ে ভবিষ্যতে মানুষের সেবায় নিয়োজিত থাকবে বলে অঙ্গীকার করে। আলোচনায় অংশগ্রহণকারী বাংলাদেশি-কানাডিয়ান কমিউনিটির নেতৃবৃন্দ বলেন, ‘বঙ্গবন্ধুর সংগ্রামী জীবন প্রতিটি বাঙালির জন্য অনুকরণীয় ও গর্বের বিষয়।’ শিশুদের প্রতি জাতির পিতার অগাধ ও অকৃত্রিম ভালবাসা ছিল বলে তাঁরা তাদের বক্তব্যে উল্লেখ করেন। আমাদের শিক্ষা ব্যবস্থা এবং জাতীয় ও সামাজিক অনুষ্ঠানাদির মাধ্যমে বঙ্গবন্ধুর সংগ্রামী জীবনের ইতিহাস আমাদের পরবর্তী প্রজন্মকে জানানোর উপর বক্তারা গুরুত্বারোপ করেন।
সভাপতির বক্তব্যের শুরুতেই মান্যবর হাইকমিশনার ড. খলিলুর রহমান জাতির পিতা বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান এবং মহান মুক্তিযুদ্ধের শহিদদের শ্রদ্ধার সাথে স্মরণ করেন। তিনি বলেন, বঙ্গবন্ধুর জন্ম না হলে বাংলাদেশের জন্ম হতো না, তাই আমাদের জাতীয় জীবনে এই দিনটি অতীব গুরুত্বপূর্ণ। বঙ্গবন্ধুর জীবনের নানা ঘটনা থেকে আমরা শিশুদের প্রতি তাঁর অগাধ ও অকৃত্রিম ভালোবাসার প্রমাণ পাই বলে তিনি উল্লেখ করেন। তিনি বলেন, বাংলাদেশকে শিশুদের জন্য নিরাপদ আবাসভূমিতে পরিণত করার শপথ নিতেই বঙ্গবন্ধুর জন্মদিনে জাতীয় শিশু দিবস পালন করার উদ্যোগ গ্রহণ করা হয়েছে। তিনি শিক্ষা, সংস্কৃতি চর্চা ও খেলাধুলার মাধ্যমে অসাম্প্রদায়িক চেতনায় দেশ গড়তে সকলকে উদ্বুদ্ধ করেন। দেশ ও মানুষকে ভালোবাসার মানসিকতা বিকাশের মাধ্যমে শিশুরা যাতে নিজেদের সুনাগরিক হিসেবে গড়ে তুলতে পারে সে জন্য কাজ করতে উপস্থিত সকলকে তিনি আহ্বান জানান। মান্যবর হাইকমিশনার শিশুদের জন্য একটি বাসযোগ্য পৃথিবী রেখে যেতে এবং শিশুদের প্রতি মানবিক আচরণ করতে সকলকে অনুরোধ জানান।
ইত:পূর্বে এ দিবস উপলক্ষে কানাডায় বসবাসরত প্রবাসি বাংলাদেশি শিশুরা ০২ (দুই) ক্যাটাগরিতে প্রতিযোগিতায় অংশ নেয়। ৫-১২ বছর বয়সী শিশুদের চিত্রাঙ্কন প্রতিযোগিতার বিষয় ছিল ‘বঙ্গবন্ধু ও সোনার বাংলা’ এবং ১০-১৬ বছর বয়সী শিশুদের রচনা প্রতিযোগিতার বিষয় ছিল ‘স্মার্ট বাংলাদেশ’। মান্যবর হাইকমিশনার চিত্রাঙ্কন ও রচনা প্রতিযোগিতায় বিজয়ীদের নাম ঘোষণা করেন। উপস্থিত সকল শিশুকে বিশেষ উপহার দেওয়া হয়। অনুষ্ঠানের শেষ পর্যায়ে শিশুদের সাথে নিয়ে মান্যবর হাইকমিশনার ও উপস্থিত সকলে কেক কাটেন।
