বাংলাদেশ হাইকমিশন, অটোয়া কর্তৃক যথাযোগ্য মর্যাদায় গণহত্যা দিবস পালিত
আজ ২৫ মার্চ ২০২৪ তারিখ বাংলাদেশ হাইকমিশন, অটোয়া যথাযোগ্য মর্যাদায় গণহত্যা দিবস-২০২৪ পালন করেছে। কানাডায় নিযুক্ত বাংলাদেশের মান্যবর হাইকমিশনার ড. খলিলুর রহমানের সভাপতিত্বে দিবসটি উপলক্ষে হাইকমিশনের অডিটোরিয়ামে বিশেষ আলোচনা সভার আয়োজন করা হয়। এ সময় হাইকমিশনের সকল কর্মকর্তা ও কর্মচারী উপস্থিত ছিলেন।
আলোচনা সভার শুরুতেই ১৯৭১ সালের মহান মুক্তিযুদ্ধের ৩০ লক্ষ শহিদের স্মরণে দাঁড়িয়ে এক মিনিট নীরবতা পালন করা হয়। এরপর হাইকমিশনের সংশ্লিষ্ট কর্মকর্তাগণ এ দিবস উপলক্ষে মহামান্য রাষ্ট্রপতি ও মাননীয় প্রধানমন্ত্রী কর্তৃক প্রদত্ত বাণীগুলো পাঠ করে শোনান এবং দিবসটি উপলক্ষে নির্মিত একটি প্রামাণ্যচিত্র প্রদর্শন করা হয়।
মাননীয় হাইকমিশনার তাঁর বক্তব্যে বলেন যে, পৃথিবীর ইতিহাসে যতগুলো গণহত্যা সংঘটিত হয়েছে, তার মধ্যে ১৯৭১ সালে আমাদের মহান মুক্তিযুদ্ধের সময় পাকিস্তানি হানাদার বাহিনী কর্তৃক সংঘটিত গণহত্যা অন্যতম নৃশংস। ১৯৭১-এর ২৫ মার্চ অপারেশন সার্চলাইট-এর নামে বাঙালি নিধনের পূর্বপরিকল্পিত নীলনকশা বাস্তবায়িত হয়েছিল। দীর্ঘ ৯ মাসের যুদ্ধে পাকিস্তানি সামরিক জান্তা তাদের এদেশীয় দোসরদের সহযোগিতায় ৩০ লাখ মানুষকে হত্যা করেছিল এবং ২ লাখের অধিক মা-বোনের সম্ভ্রম কেড়ে নিয়েছিল। মান্যবর হাইকমিশনার দেশকে বঙ্গবন্ধুর স্বপ্নের সোনার বাংলায় পরিণত করার মধ্য দিয়েই একাত্তরের গণহত্যায় আত্মোৎসর্গকারী প্রতিটি প্রাণের প্রতি চিরন্তন শ্রদ্ধাঞ্জলি জ্ঞাপনের আহ্বান জানান।
মান্যবর হাইকমিশনার কানাডায় ১৯৭১ সালের গণহত্যার স্বীকৃতির জন্য হাইকমিশনের অব্যাহত প্রচেষ্টার কথা তুলে ধরেন। তিনি উল্লেখ করেন, হাইকমিশন ও বঙ্গবন্ধু সেন্টার ফর বাংলাদেশ স্টাডিজ ইন কানাডা (বিসিবিএস)-এর যৌথ উদ্যোগের ফলে কানাডার ম্যানিটোবা প্রদেশের উইনিপেগ-এ অবস্থিত কানাডিয়ান মিউজিয়াম ফর হিউম্যান রাইটস (সিএমএইচআর) তাদের Breaking the Silence Gallery-তে ১৯৭১-এর গণহত্যার তথ্যচিত্র এবং জাতির পিতা বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমানের প্রতিকৃতির স্থায়ী প্রদর্শন করতে সম্মত হয়েছে। আগামী সেপ্টেম্বর/অক্টোবর ২০২৪-এ স্থায়ী প্রদর্শনীর (‘Permanent Display of the Exhibits of the Genocide’) আনুষ্ঠানিক উদ্বোধন হবে বলে তিনি আশা প্রকাশ করেন।
অন্যান্যদের মধ্যে হাইকমিশনের মিনিস্টার জনাব দেওয়ান হোসনে আইয়ুব ১৯৭১ সালে বাংলাদেশে সংগঠিত গণহত্যার আন্তর্জাতিক স্বীকৃতির গুরুত্ব তুলে ধরেন।
জাতির জনক বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান এবং মহান স্বাধীনতা যুদ্ধের ৩০ লাখ শহিদের আত্মার মাগফিরাত কামনা করে বিশেষ মোনাজাতের মাধ্যমে আলোচনা অনুষ্ঠান সমাপ্ত হয়।
Observance of Genocide Day-2024 at the Bangladesh High Commission, Ottawa
Today, on 25 March 2024, Bangladesh High Commission in Ottawa observed Genocide Day-2024 with solemn reverence. His Excellency the High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Canada, Dr. Khalilur Rahman, presided over a special discussion meeting commemorating the occasion at the High Commission’s auditorium. All officers and officials of the High Commission were present during the discussion event.
The proceedings commenced with observance of a minute of silence in remembrance of 3 million martyrs who sacrificed their lives during our war of independence in 1971. Subsequently, messages from the Hon’ble President, Hon’ble Prime Minister on this significant day were read out by respective officers of the High Commission. A documentary capturing the essence of the Genocide Day was also screened.
In his address, HE the High Commissioner emphasized that the genocide perpetrated by the Pakistani invading forces during Bangladesh’s war of liberation in 1971 stands as one of the most brutal atrocities in history. He recounted the premeditated implementation of ‘Operation Searchlight’ on 25 March 1971, which unleashed a wave of violence by Pakistani occupation force resulting in the deaths of 3 million people and the dishonor of over two million women over the nine months of war.
HE the High Commissioner underscored the ongoing efforts of the High Commission towards securing recognition of the 1971 genocide in Canada. He cited the collaborative efforts between the High Commission and the Bangabandhu Center for Bangladesh Studies in Canada (BCBS), which resulted in the decision of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR) in Winnipeg, Canada for the ‘Permanent Display of the Exhibits of the Genocide’ as well as the permanent display of the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in their Breaking the Silence Gallery. He expressed optimism that the commissioning of the permanent display by CMHR would take place officially in September/October 2024.
Among others, Mr. Dewan Hossne Ayub, Minister of this High Commission emphasized the importance of international recognition of the genocide held in 1971.
Concluding the event, a special prayer was offered for the souls of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Father of the Nation, and the three million martyrs of our great war of independence.
