Celebration of Homecoming Day of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by the Bangladesh High Commission, Ottawa, Canada.
On January 10, 2024, the Bangladesh High Commission, Ottawa, Canada organized a special program to celebrate the Homecoming Day 2024 of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. His Excellency the High Commissioner Dr. Khalilur Rahman presided over the event.
At the beginning of the program, H.E., the high commissioner, Dr. Khalilur Rahman, laid a floral wreath on the portrait of the Father of the Nation. After this, officers of the High Commission read out the special messages given by Hon’ble President and Hon’ble Prime Minister on this special day. Following this, a documentary film featuring the significance of Bangabandhu’s Homecoming on 10 January 1972 was screened. This was followed by a special discussion marking the occasion.
Leading members of the Bangladeshi community, including freedom fighters living in Canada, participated in this special discussion. The speakers emphasized that there is no alternative to understanding and studying about Bangabandhu to truly know Bangladesh. They highlighted the importance of reading Bangabandhu’s writings, including his memoir ‘The Unfinished Memoirs’ as well as various books and articles about Bangabandhu and Bangladesh by eminent researchers and writers.
At the beginning, H.E., the High Commissioner, Dr. Khalilur Rahman in his speech, paid deep respect to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his martyred family members. Highlighting the recently aired documentary by Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) on Canada’s hosting of Bangabandhu’s killer Nur Chowdhury by Canada for the past 28 years. H.E., the High Commissioner expressed firm determination to deport this heinous killer to Bangladesh to face the verdict of the court.
H.E., the High Commissioner also opined that Bangladesh cannot be imagined without Bangabandhu and recalled the unprecedented development of the newly formed Bangladesh in just three and a half years under his leadership. On this occasion of Bangabandhu’s Homecoming Day, H.E., the High Commissioner called on everyone to play effective and appropriate role to help the new government in realizing the Father of the Nation’s dream of a ‘Golden Bangladesh’ and a prosperous ‘Smart Bangladesh’ by 2041 resisting all domestic and foreign conspiracies and being inspired by the spirit of our Great Liberation War.

আজ ১০ জানুয়ারি ২০২৪ তারিখে স্বাধীনতার মহান স্থপতি জাতির পিতা বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমানের স্বদেশ প্রত্যাবর্তন দিবস-২০২৪ উদযাপন উপলক্ষ্যে কানাডার অটোয়াস্থ বাংলাদেশ হাইকমিশন বিশেষ অনুষ্ঠানের আয়োজন করে। মান্যবর হাইকমিশনার ড. খলিলুর রহমান এই অনুষ্ঠানের সভাপতিত্ব করেন।
অনুষ্ঠানের শুরুতে মান্যবর হাইকমিশনার ড. খলিলুর রহমান জাতির পিতার প্রতিকৃতিতে পুষ্পস্তবক অর্পণ করেন। অত:পর হাইকমিশনের কর্মকর্তাবৃন্দ কর্তৃক ঢাকা হতে প্রেরিত মহামান্য রাষ্ট্রপতি ও মাননীয় প্রধানমন্ত্রীর বাণী পাঠ করে শোনানো হয়। বাণী পাঠের পর বঙ্গবন্ধুর স্বদেশ প্রত্যাবর্তন দিবস উপলক্ষ্যে একটি প্রামাণ্য চিত্র প্রদর্শন করা হয়। এরপর দিবসটি উপলক্ষ্যে একটি বিশেষ আলোচনা অনুষ্ঠিত হয়।
কানাডায় বসবাসরত মুক্তিযোদ্ধাগণসহ বাংলাদেশি কমিউনিটির সদস্যবৃন্দ বিশেষ এ আলোচনা অনুষ্ঠানে বক্তব্য রাখেন। বাংলাদেশকে জানতে হলে বঙ্গবন্ধু সম্পর্কে জানা ও পড়ার বিকল্প নেই বলে বক্তারা উল্লেখ করেন।। তাঁরা বঙ্গবন্ধু কর্তৃক রচিত ‘অসমাপ্ত আত্মজীবনী’সহ অন্য দুইটি পুস্তক এবং বঙ্গবন্ধু ও স্বাধীনতা যুদ্ধের উপর বিশিষ্ট গবেষক ও লেখকদের রচিত বিভিন্ন বই ও প্রবন্ধ পড়ার বিশেষ গুরুত্বরোপ করেন।
সভাপতির বক্তব্যে মান্যবর হাইকমিশনার ড. খলিলুর রহমান জাতির পিতা বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান ও তাঁর পরিবারের শহিদ সদস্যেদের প্রতি গভীর শ্রদ্ধা জ্ঞাপন করেন। সম্প্রতি গত ১৭ নভেম্বর ২০২৩ তারিখে কানাডার সরকারি টেলিভিশন, কানাডিয়ান ব্রডকাস্টিং কর্পোরেশন (সিবিসি) সাজাপ্রাপ্ত খুনি নূর চৌধুরীর এ দেশে অবস্থানের বিষয়ে প্রচারিত সুদীর্ঘ প্রামাণ্যচিত্রের কথা উল্লেখ করে মান্যবর হাইকমিশনার খুনি নুর চৌধুরীকে দেশে ফেরত নিয়ে বিচারের রায় কার্যকর করতে দৃঢ় প্রত্যয় ব্যক্ত করেন।
মান্যবর হাইকমিশনার তাঁর বক্তব্যে বলেন যে, বঙ্গবন্ধু ছাড়া বাংলাদেশকে কল্পনা করা যায় না এবং তিনি বঙ্গবন্ধুর স্বদেশ প্রত্যাবর্তনের পরবর্তী সময়ে মাত্র সাড়ে তিন বছরে নবগঠিত বাংলাদেশের অভূতপূর্ব উন্নয়নের কথা স্মরণ করেন। বঙ্গবন্ধুর স্বদেশে প্রত্যাবর্তন দিবসের এই মাহেন্দ্রক্ষণে দেশী-বিদেশী সকল ষড়যন্ত্র প্রতিহত করে মহান মুক্তিযুদ্ধের চেতনায় উদ্ধুদ্ধ হয়ে ঐক্যবদ্ধভাবে জাতির পিতার স্বপ্নের ‘সোনার বাংলাদেশ’ তথা ২০৪১ সালের মধ্যে উন্নত-সমৃদ্ধ ‘স্মার্ট বাংলাদেশ’ বিনির্মাণে সাথে নিজ নিজ অবস্থান থেকে কার্যকর ভূমিকা রাখতে এবং নবগঠিত সরকারকে সহযোগিতা করতে হাইকমিশনার মহোদয় সকলকে আহবান জানান।
