Happy Earth Day 2020. April 22 is celebrated Earth Day. 22nd April is celebrated as Earth Day globally in support of the protection of environment and taking care of our planet. We must protect our planet from global warming. It is also celebrated to raise awareness about importance of our beautiful mother earth as well as the planet where we live. The first Earth Day was celebrated on April 22, 1970. This year 2020 is the 50th anniversary of our Earth Day. The theme for Earth Day 2020 is climate action. The enormous challenge — but also the vast opportunities — of action on climate change have distinguished the issue as the most pressing topic for the 50th anniversary of our Earth Day in 2020. As a result of the outbreak Coronavirus Pandemic this year of 2020, Earth Day has launched its first ever digital mobilisation and online celebration. Global Coronavirus Pandemic (COVID-19) is also warning us that we must protect our environment and take care of our planet from pollution. And we must also take care of the wild-lives and other species from extinction for our healthy survival on this beautiful planet.
Climate change represents the biggest challenge to the future of humanity and the life-support systems that make our world habitable. Protecting the planet and preserving its environment are a must for our heathy survival. The alarming accumulation of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, the loss and extinction of wild-lives and species and the alarming acidification and pollution of the oceans are gradually destabilizing our beautiful mother earth from the standpoint of global pollution. And some species are teetering on the brink of extinction. On Earth Day 2016, the landmark United Nations Climate Change Agreement Known as Paris Agreement was signed by U.S., Canada, India, Bangladesh, Japan and some 120 other countries. That is also considered to be the birthday of the modern environmental protection movement. In 1969, it was John McConnell, a dedicated peace activist who proposed to hold a day in honor of the Earth around 21st March. U.N. adopted this in 1970. Later on, US Senator Gaylord Nelson, a Democratic politician famous for his environmental work, proposed to hold a teach-in about environmental issues on April 22, which developed into Earth Day. The idea was taken globally in 1990 by the Earth Day Network, and Earth Day is now celebrated globally every year on April 22. It is a very good thing that nowadays more than one billion people worldwide participate in activities on Earth Day. In many communities the Earth Day celebrations are part of Earth Week, an entire week of activities focussing on environmental issues to protect the planet. Earth Day is now observed in 193 countries which are coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network, a non-profit organisation that co-ordinates different activities. Plastic pollution is poisoning our oceans and land, injuring marine life, and affecting our health. We should never forget that our mother earth is very beautiful, patient and our true savior. Let us save our mother earth from pollution for our healthy survival.
