Bangladesh Embassy Washington D.C. observes National Mourning Day
Washington D.C. 15 August: The Embassy of Bangladesh in Washington D.C. observed National Mourning Day commemorating the 46th anniversary of martyrdom of the Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman with due solemnity. The embassy officials paid their rich tributes to the departed souls of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the architect of Bangladesh’s independence and members of his family brutally killed on this day in 1975.
Mr. Anwar Hossain Manju, MP and Mr. Mohammad Shafiul Alam, Alternate Executive Director of Bangladesh to the World Bank were also present at the event as chief guest and special guest respectively.
The day’s programs began with the ceremonial hoisting of the national flag at half-mast by Ambassador M Shahidul Islam. The national anthem was played at this time. Then, the Ambassador accompanied by Mr. Anwar Hossain Manju, MP, Mr. Mohammad Shafiul Alam and the officials of the Embassy placed a floral wreath at the bust of the Father of the Nation and observed a moment of silence for paying homage to the Father of the Nation. Later, messages of President, Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and State Minister were readout.
The discussion session began with the welcome remarks by the Ambassador. Referring to the Prime Minister’s message on the occasion, Ambassador Shahidul Islam called for upholding the ideals of Bangabandhu and transform grief into strength through working relentlessly to build Sonar Bangla- the dream of the Father of the Nation. He highlighted the vision of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to establish Bangladesh as a respected member of the comity of nations and condemned the heinous act of assassination of Bangabandhu with his family members by the gang of anti-liberation forces that jeopardized the progress of the nation.
In his speech, Mr. Anwar Hossain Manju, MP shared his personal experiences and learnings from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as he actively participated as a student leader during the Six-Point Movement in 1966. He highlighted the leadership of Bangabandhu in rebuilding the nation from a war ravaged and economically unstable country. Praising the leadership of the Prime Minister, Mr Manju observed that the daughter of Bangabandhu has decisively raised Bangladesh’s standing in the world. He said he was proud to be able to work under the able leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and committed to carrying forward his duties to the nation till the last days.
Mohammad Shafiul Alam, former Cabinet Secretary shared his thoughts on Bangabandhu and noted with great respect Bangabandhu’s strong leadership in steering the newborn country and forging international relations. He asserted that most of the laws, rules and institution building work of Bangladesh was either completed or initiated by Bangabandhu within his less than four years time at helm of the statecraft.
A documentary on the life of Bangabandhu and the history of our Liberation War was screened at the end of the programme. A special prayer was also offered seeking divine blessing for all the martyrs of the August 15 and the heroes of our liberation war.
শোককে শক্তিতে রূপান্তরের প্রত্যয়ে ওয়াশিংটনস্থ বাংলাদেশ দূতাবাসে জাতীয় শোক দিবস পালিত
ওয়াশিংটন, ডি.সি., ১৫ আগস্ট । ওয়াশিংটন ডিসিতে অবস্থিত বাংলাদেশ দূতাবাস যথাযোগ্য মর্যাদায় জাতির পিতা বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমানের ৪৬তম শাহাদত বার্ষিকী স্মরণে জাতীয় শোক দিবস পালন করেছে। ১৯৭৫ সালের ১৫ আগস্টের এ দিনে বাংলাদেশের স্বাধীনতার স্থপতি বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান এবং তাঁর পরিবারের সদস্যরা নির্মমভাবে নিহত হন। দূতাবাসের কর্মকর্তারা বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান এবং তাঁর পরিবারের নিহত সদস্যবৃন্দের বিদেহী আত্মার প্রতি শ্রদ্ধা জ্ঞাপন করেন।
জনাব আনোয়ার হোসেন মঞ্জু, এমপি প্রধান অতিথি হিসেবে এবং বিশ্ব ব্যাংকে বাংলাদেশের বিকল্প নির্বাহী পরিচালক জনাব মোহাম্মদ শফিউল আলম বিশেষ অতিথি হিসেবে উক্ত অনুষ্ঠানে উপস্থিত ছিলেন।
জাতীয় সংগীতের সাথে সাথে রাষ্ট্রদূত এম সহিদুল ইসলাম কর্তৃক জাতীয় পতাকা উত্তোলন ও অর্ধনমিতকরণের মধ্য দিয়ে দিনের কর্মসূচি শুরু হয়। অতঃপর রাষ্ট্রদূত মহোদয় জনাব আনোয়ার হোসেন মঞ্জু, এমপি, জনাব মোহাম্মদ শফিউল আলম এবং দূতাবাসের কর্মকর্তাদের নিয়ে জাতির পিতার আবক্ষ মূর্তিতে পুষ্পস্তবক অর্পণ করেন এবং জাতির পিতার প্রতি শ্রদ্ধা জানানোর জন্য কিছুক্ষণ নীরবতা পালন করেন। এরপর মহামান্য রাষ্ট্রপতি, মাননীয় প্রধানমন্ত্রী, মাননীয় পররাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী ও মাননীয় পররাষ্ট্র প্রতিমন্ত্রীর বাণীসমূহ পাঠ করা হয়।
রাষ্ট্রদূতের স্বাগত বক্তব্যের মাধ্যমে আলোচনা অনুষ্ঠান শুরু হয়। মাননীয় প্রধানমন্ত্রীর উদ্ধৃতি উল্লেখ করে রাষ্ট্রদূত এম সহিদুল ইসলাম বঙ্গবন্ধুর আদর্শকে সমুন্নত রাখার এবং জাতির পিতার স্বপ্নের সোনার বাংলা গড়ার জন্য নিরলসভাবে কাজ করার মাধ্যমে শোককে শক্তিতে রূপান্তরের আহ্বান জানান। তিনি বাংলাদেশকে বিশ্ব দরবারে সম্মানিত সদস্য হিসেবে প্রতিষ্ঠিত করার জন্য বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমানের দৃষ্টিভঙ্গির কথা তুলে ধরেন এবং জাতির অগ্রগতি বিপন্নকারী স্বাধীনতাবিরোধী শক্তি দ্বারা বঙ্গবন্ধুকে সপরিবারে হত্যার এ জঘন্য কাজের নিন্দা জানান।
জনাব আনোয়ার হোসেন মঞ্জু, এমপি তার বক্তব্যে ব্যক্তিগত অভিজ্ঞতা এবং বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমানের কাছ থেকে অর্জিত জ্ঞান ও অভিজ্ঞতা তুলে ধরেন, কেননা তিনি ১৯৬৬ সালে ছয় দফা আন্দোলনের সময় ছাত্রনেতা হিসেবে সক্রিয়ভাবে অংশগ্রহণ করেছিলেন। প্রধানমন্ত্রীর নেতৃত্বের প্রশংসা করে জনাব মঞ্জু উল্লেখ করেন যে, বঙ্গবন্ধু কন্যা বিশ্বে বাংলাদেশের অবস্থান লক্ষ্যনীয়ভাবে তুলে ধরেছেন। তিনি আরো বলেন, প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনার যোগ্য নেতৃত্বে কাজ করতে পেরে তিনি গর্বিত এবং শেষ দিন পর্যন্ত জাতির প্রতি তার দায়িত্ব পালন করতে প্রতিশ্রুতিবদ্ধ।
অনুষ্ঠানে প্রাক্তন মন্ত্রিপরিষদ সচিব মোহাম্মদ শফিউল আলম বঙ্গবন্ধু সম্পর্কে তাঁর অনুভূতি ও দৃষ্টিভঙ্গি তুলে ধরেন। বাংলাদেশের মত একটি নব্য স্বাধীন দেশকে পরিচালিত করতে এবং আন্তর্জাতিক সম্পর্ক গড়ে তোলার ক্ষেত্রে বঙ্গবন্ধুর দৃঢ় নেতৃত্বের কথা উল্লেখ করেন। তিনি দৃঢ় কন্ঠে বলেন যে, বাংলাদেশের বেশিরভাগ আইন, বিধি এবং প্রতিষ্ঠান নির্মাণের কাজটি বঙ্গবন্ধু তার রাষ্ট্রযন্ত্র পরিচালনার চার বছরেরও কম সময়ের মধ্যে হয় সম্পন্ন করেছিলেন নতুবা সূচনা করেছিলেন।
অনুষ্ঠান শেষে বঙ্গবন্ধুর জীবন ও আমাদের মুক্তিযুদ্ধের ইতিহাস নিয়ে একটি তথ্যচিত্র প্রদর্শন করা হয়। ১৫ আগস্টের সকল শহীদ এবং আমাদের মুক্তিযুদ্ধে শহীদ বীরদের বিদেহী আত্মার মাগফেরাত কামনা করে একটি বিশেষ প্রার্থনাও অনুষ্ঠিত হয়।
