Bangladesh High Commission in Ottawa celebrates the Golden Jubilee of Bangabandhu’s “Julio Curie” Peace Medal.
Today, Bangladesh High Commission in Ottawa, Canada, celebrated the momentous occasion of the golden jubilee of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s “Julio Curie” Peace Medal. The event, held at the auditorium of the Bangladesh High Commission, commenced at 5:00 pm.
The event was attended by officials of the High Commission, as well as prominent members of the Bangladeshi community residing in Canada.
The program began with a tribute paid to the portrait of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, followed by the reading of messages from Hon’ble President and the Hon’ble Prime Minister.
Eminent leaders from various provinces of Canada participated in the discussion and shed light on the significance of Bangabandhu’s Julio Curie Award in the context of the current global scenario. They emphasized the importance of upholding Bangabandhu’s ideals to further develop the nation.
H.E., the High Commissioner Dr. Khalilur Rahman chaired the event. He commenced the speech by paying deep reverence for the memory of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. He highlighted that the “Julio Curie Peace Medal” serves as the first international recognition of Bangabandhu’s exceptional contribution to establishing world peace, bringing immense honor to the Bengali nation on the global stage. This celebration of the Golden Jubilee of Julio Curie Award by Bangabandhu by the Government of Bangladesh will familiarize the present generation with Bangabandhu’s philosophy of peace.
The High Commissioner also emphasized Bangabandhu’s crucial role in guiding Bangladesh towards independence and his remarkable foresight in ensuring the nation’s peace and security. He highlighted Bangabandhu’s unwavering support for the exploited and oppressed, working tirelessly to secure the rights of the people of Bengal. Following the establishment of independent Bangladesh, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman eschewed extremism and socialism, opting instead for a policy of “Friendship to all, malice towards none”. World Peace Council recognized his leadership during the liberation war against the exploitative Pakistani regime and his lifelong commitment to championing the cause of oppressed people.
The High Commissioner further acknowledged that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangabandhu’s able daughter, continues to carry forward his legacy. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina tirelessly advocates for the rights of oppressed people worldwide, promoting peace on both the
domestic and international fronts. Under her leadership, the Chittagong Hill Tracts witnessed the establishment of lasting peace in 1997, and Bangladesh’s efforts at the United Nations under her leadership resulted in the adoption of the Culture of Peace resolution.
The event concluded with a special prayer offered for the souls of Bangabandhu, his family members, and the martyred freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the liberation of Bangladesh.
