Marvin Rotrand received the Quebec National Assembly Medal
Mr. Marvin Rotrand, municipal councilor of the Snowdon district in the Côte-des-Neiges – Notre-Dame-de-Grâce borough (CDN-NDG), received the medal of the National Assembly of Quebec from the hands of the member of the Party Quebec Liberal from Mont-Royal – Outremont, Pierre Arcand, last night to underline his political career as well as his contribution to the influence of the city of Montreal.
The 70-year-old dean of town hall announced his retirement from politics last June. Mr. Rotrand’s significant contribution is marked by his collaboration with politicians at the provincial and federal levels, his dedication to different cultural communities, and the defense of the rights of citizens and minorities. Mr. Rotrand was vice-president of the Société des Transports de la ville de Montréal for 16 years and received the Canadian Urban Transport Association award for his exceptional service to public transit in Canada.
“It is with gratitude that I presented this honorable distinction to Mr. Rotrand with whom I had the pleasure of collaborating. This gesture is a way of thanking him for his invaluable contribution to Quebec society and his exemplary achievement. ” said Mr. Arcand. Elected for the first time in 1982 when Jean Drapeau was mayor of Montreal, Mr. Marvin Rotrand will have been in public services for 39 years. An independent advisor since 2019, Mr. Rotrand has joined the Ensemble Montréal team since the announcement of his retirement, until the next municipal elections scheduled for November 7. Still active in politics, Mr. Rotrand took advantage of the presence of the media to announce some motions adopted the day before by City Council. Somerled Park in NDG will be renamed Warren-Allmand, Member of Parliament in this area and elected to the Liberal Party of Canada for over 30 years.
In addition, an action plan was voted in order to combat systemic racism, but more specifically towards members of the community of Asian origin. Finally, more local and independent media will be published in different languages in order to reach communities. “We have essentially deprived hundreds of thousands of people of good municipal news and the ability to see it in their own language.” explains Mr. Rotrand. Not wanting to give more details at this point, Mr. Rotrand assures us that he will still be seen around in politics despite his intention to retire.
