SORAYA MARTINEZ MEETS RESIDENTS IN SNOWON’S TRIANGLE DISTRICT
Over 200 people came out today to meet with Ensemble Montreal Mayoralty candidate SORAYA MARTINEZ, Councillor STEPHANIE VALENZUELA who is the party’s candidate for Borough Mayor in Cote des Neiges – Notre Dame de Grace and Snowdon Councillor SONNY MOROZ.
As the former Councillor for Snowdon, I was pleased to drop by in support of the Ensemble team. It was great to see Member of Parliament Anthony Housefather on hand as well to dialogue with residents – who are also his constituents – and to endorse the Ensemble slate.
Residents are very unhappy with Projet Montreal and particularly the current Borough Mayor. They were not impressed by some hasty last minute promises conveyed to them yesterday about the current administration promising to do more to advocate for a school in the neighbourhood.
As one resident said to Soraya, the neighbourhood has had eight years of empty promises from Projet Montreal.
As well, the neighbourhood is largely comprised of condos and people bought based on a development plan that promised lots of green space and height limits to new buildings. The extra green hasn’t materialized and the administrations effort to upzone to higher buildings is being seen as dishonest.
No one present today accepts the decision to fuse the Triangle with the Hippodrome purposes for urban planning. Soraya listened and offered some suggestions that seem to have been well received.
Wherever I go these days, it seems Montrealers want change. It feels like the Triangle will be part of propelling that change forward. People really appreciated that the Mayoralty candidate took time out of a very busy schedule to meet with residents.
