Quebec Finance Minister Eric Girard presented his 2020-2021 budget by delivering his budget speech at the National Assembly of Quebec on Tuesday, the 10th March 2020. The $118-billion budget for 2020-21 represents a 5.1 per cent increase over the previous year. In this 2020-2021 budget, the Quebec government wants to pour more money into health care and education this year, while trying to convince Quebecers that the CAQ Government is serious about reducing greenhouse gases by caring about environment. In the annual Budget, tabled in the National Assembly, Finance Minister Eric Girard reported a $1.9 billion surplus last year, thanks in part to a booming economy where the unemployment rate is very low. The Coalition Avenir Quebec(CAQ) Government said it would devote $6.7 billion over six years to deal with climate change to build a green economy. In line with international commitments, the province aims to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 37.5 per cent below its 1990 level by 2030.
. This is Quebec Premier Francois Legault government’s second budget in which Finance Minister Eric Girard wants to tackle two big goals: getting the province on track to meet its greenhouse gas emission targets and increasing the economy’s productivity.

Because of strong public finances, Girard characterized the economy as resilient and able to manage potential upcoming concerns, including the financial impact of COVID-19.
