ডিসেম্বর ১১। বিকাল ৩.০০টা। বঙ্গোপসাগর তীরে দরিয়ানগর সমুদ্রসৈকতে মনোরম ঝাউবন। জলবায়ু বিপর্যয়জনিত প্রলয়ের হাত থেকে প্রিয় ধরিত্রীকে বাঁচানোর প্রত্যয়ে এখানে জড়ো হয়েছেন দেশের কয়েক শ জলবায়ুকর্মী, কক্সবাজার স্থানীয় প্রশাসন প্রতিনিধি, আদিবাসী সম্প্রদায়, জেলে সম্প্রদায়, কর্মজীবী নারী, স্কুল-কলেজের শিক্ষার্থীসহ বিভিন্ন শ্রেণী ও পেশার কয়েক শ মানুষ।

এ মুহূর্তে মুষ্ঠিবদ্ধ ডান হাত সামনে বাড়িয়ে তারা প্রস্তুত। জলবায়ুকর্মী ও ফোর্বস-খ্যাতিমান কার্টুনিস্ট মোরশেদ মিশু সবার সামনে দাঁড়িয়ে। এক হাতে এক টুকরো কাগজ। অন্য হাতে একটা মাইক্রোফোন মুখের সামনে ধরে হাতের কাগজটার লেখাগুলোর দিকে তাকিয়ে জোর গলায় থেমে থেমে সুস্পষ্ট উচ্চারণে তিনি পড়ে গেলেন, ‘আমরা আন্তরিকভাবে শপথ করছি যে, দীর্ঘকাল ধরে পরিবেশ দূষণ পৃথিবীর মাটি, পানি, বাতাস, বৃক্ষজগত ও জীববৈচিত্র্যকে ধ্বংস করে মানবজাতির জন্য যে বৈশি^ক সংকট সৃষ্টি করেছে, আমরা পৃথিবীর মানুষেরা সেই দুর্দৈবের বিরুদ্ধে অপরাজিত যোদ্ধা হিসেবে কাজ করে যাব। আমরা আরও শপথ করছি যে, পরিবেশের সুস্থতার স্বার্থে পরিবেশ-বান্ধব যানবাহনের ব্যবহার বাড়াতে চেষ্টা করব ও জীবাশ্ম জ¦ালানির ব্যবহার কমিয়ে আনতে সচেষ্ট হব।

এরই পাশাপাশি পুনর্ব্যবহারযোগ্য শক্তি ও জ¦ালানি ব্যবহার করে, খাদ্যের অপচয় ও প্লাস্টিকের ব্যবহার রোধ করে পৃথিবীকে দারিদ্র্য ও দূষণমুক্ত করার প্রয়াস পাব।

আমরা আরো শপথ করছি যে, পরিবেশ ও জলবায়ুর প্রতি আমরা দায়িত্বশীল মনোভাব গ্রহণ করব,

আমাদের সর্বোচ্চ ক্ষমতা দিয়ে প্রকৃতিকে সুস্থ রাখব এবং পৃথিবীর কার্বন নিঃসরণ কমিয়ে সুস্থ, সুনীল ও বাসযোগ্য ধরিত্রী গড়ে তুলব।’

সাগর-আকাশ-মাটির মিলনবিন্দুতে সমবেত মানুষগুলিও দৃঢ়কন্ঠে শপথনামার প্রতিটি বাক্যের পৃনরাবৃত্তি করলেন স্বকন্ঠে, শপথের বাক্যগুলো গেঁথে নিলেন হৃদয়ে।

দেশের বরেণ্য শিক্ষাবিদ, সাহিত্যিক, সংস্কারক ও জলবায়ুকর্মী, বিশ^ সাহিত্য কেন্দ্রের প্রতিষ্ঠাতা অধ্যাপক আব্দুল্লাহ আবু সায়ীদের কলমে মাত্র চারটি বাক্যে রচিত এই জলবায়ু অঙ্গীকারনামা বাংলাদেশের ইতিহাসে অনুষ্ঠিত প্রথম ‘জলবায়ু শপথ’।

অপরাজেয় জলবায়ু যোদ্ধাবাহিনীর অংশ হয়ে এ সময় আরো ছিলেন মার্কিন দূতাবাসের কালচারাল অ্যান্ড পাবলিক অ্যাফেয়ার্স অফিসার শারলিনা হুসেন মরগান, রিভারাইন পিপল প্রতিষ্ঠাতা শেখ রোকন, ফোর্বস ৩০-আন্ডার-৩০ স্বীকৃতিখ্যাত কার্টুনিস্ট মোরশেদ মিশু এবং হার্ভার্ড অর্থনীতিবিদ আমরিন বশির, আইপিডিসি প্রধান নির্বাহী মমিনুল ইসলাম, আবিষ্কার ফ্রন্টিয়ার ফান্ডের কান্ট্রি হেড নাজমুল করিম, স্থানীয় সরকারের জ্যেষ্ঠ প্রকৌশলী মানস মÐল, পার্টনারশিপ ফর টলারেন্ট অ্যান্ড ইনক্লুসিভ বাংলাদেশ কর্মকর্তা ফায়সাল বিন মজিদ, ক্রিয়েটিভ কনজারভেটিভ অ্যালায়ান্স প্রতিষ্ঠাতা শাহরিয়ার সিজার রহমান, সিবিএম আয়ারল্যান্ড থেকে মাহবুব কবির এবং এশিয়ান ইউনিভার্সিটি ফর ওমেন অধ্যাপক ড. সৈয়দ মোহাম্মদ নাজিমসহ দেশের প্রায় সবগুলো শীর্ষ গণমাধ্যমের প্রতিনিধিরা।

মন্ট্রিয়লে শুরু হয়েছে গত ৬ ডিসেম্বর থেকে বিশ্ব জীব বৈচিত্র্য বিষয়ক আন্তর্জাতিক সম্মেলন। সেখানে ১৯৬টি দেশের প্রায়  ১০ হাজার  প্রতিনিধি উপস্থিত হয়েছেন ( UN Biodiversity Conference, COP 15)। চলবে ১৯ ডিসেম্বর পর্যন্ত।  কানাডা-বাংলাশে নিউজ এজেন্সি সিবিএনএ২৪ডটকম সেখানে উপস্থিত হয়ে ছবি ও সংবাদ পরিবেশন করছে যা কিছু লিংকস দেওয়া হলো-সম্পাদক)

দক্ষিণ এশীয় পাঁচ দেশের উদ্যোগ ক্লাইমেট অ্যাকশন চ্যাম্পিয়নস নেটওয়ার্ক (সিএসিএন) এর সাউথ ক্লাইমেট কনক্লেভ- বাংলাদেশ চ্যাপ্টারের উদ্যোগে জেনল্যাবের আয়োজনে জলবায়ু পরিবর্তন ও উন্নয়ন ভিত্তিক তিনদিনব্যাপী সম্মেলনের বহুমাত্রিক কার্যক্রমের সমাপনী ঘটল এই ‘জলবায়ু শপথ’ গ্রহণের মধ্য দিয়ে।

এর আগে সম্মেলনের দ্বিতীয় দিনে অংশগ্রহণকারীদের নিয়ে সাইট-ভিজিট হিসেবে রাস্তারপাড়া জেলেপল্লীতে নিয়ে যাওয়া হয়। সেখানে তারা কিভাবে জলবায়ুর বিরুদ্ধে লড়াই করে নিজেদের জীবন ও জীবিকা টিকিয়ে রাখছেন সে বিষয়ে আলোকপাত করা হয়। সম্মেলনের তৃতীয় ও শেষ দিন সকালে হোটেল ওশান প্যারাডাইসের বলরুমে সকাল ৮টা থেকে ১২টা পর্যন্ত নলেজ স্পেল অধিবেশন অনুষ্ঠিত হয়।

এখানে জলবায়ু কর্মী ও বক্তারা জলবায়ু বিপর্যয়ের প্রতিরোধ, জলবায়ু অভিবাসন, জলবায়ু ও জেন্ডার সহ বিভিন্ন ইস্যুর সমাধানে সামাজিক যোগাযোগ মাধ্যমের কার্যকর প্রয়োগের সম্ভাবনা নিয়ে কথা বলেন। পাশাপাশি অংশগ্রহণকারীরা নিজস্ব অভিজ্ঞতার আলোকে জলবায়ু বিপর্যয়ের কারণে সৃষ্ট ভোগান্তির অভিজ্ঞতা সবার সামনে তুলে ধরেন।

South Climate Conclave-Bangladesh Chapter’s 3-day climate conference comes to a close at Cox’s Bazar

Climate warriors took first ever ‘Climate Oath’ in country to save the planet

December 11. It’s 3-00pm in the afternoon. Venue Daryanagar Sea Beach. Several hundred members of the climate warriors in country, reps of Cox’s Bazar local administration, tribal community, fishers, working women, students and hundreds of people from all walks of life have gathered in the picturesque backdrop of the mighty Bay of Bengal with a determined heart to save our planet from the menace of the climate disaster.

All men and women raised their right hands infront of them, Forbes famed cartoonist Morshed Mishu stood before them, a piece of paper in his hand. With the other hand holding a microphone in front of his mouth, looking at the writings on the piece of paper in his hand, he began uttering in clear voice the following words,

‘We solemnly pledge hat we, the people of the earth, will act as invincible warriors against the global crisis caused by the environmental pollution destroying the earth’s soil, water, air, vegetation and biodiversity. We also pledge to increase the use of eco-friendly vehicles and reduce the use of fossil fuels for the sake of environmental health.

In addition, we will try to reduce poverty and pollution on earth by adopting renewable energy and power, prevent food waste and plastic usage.

We also pledge that we will adopt a responsible attitude towards the environment and climate, keep our nature healthy to the best of our ability and reduce the carbon emissions with the view to build a healthy, green and livable planet.’

The climate congregation standing at the confluence of the earth, the sea and the sky uttered with him the Oath repeating every sentence, memorized the words by heart.

Eminent educationist, writer, reformer and climate activist, founder of Bishwa Sahitya Kendra, Professor Abdullah Abu Sayeed wrote the ‘Climate Oath’ the first of its kind in country.

The invincible climate warriors included Sharlina Hussain Morgan, Culture and Public Relations Officer of the US Embassy, Sheikh Rokan, founder of Riverine People, Morshed Mishu, a cartoonist recognized by Forbes 30-under-30 and Harvard economist Amrin Bashir, IPDC CEO Mominul Islam, Discovery Frontier Fund Country Head Nazmul Karim, Senior Local Government Engineer Manas Mondal, Partnership for Tolerant and Inclusive Bangladesh Officer Faisal Bin Majeed, Creative Conservative Alliance Founder Shahriar Caesar Rahman, CBM Ireland Mahbub Kabir and Asian University for Women Professor Dr Syed Mohammad Nazim and top media representatives of the country.

With the oath taking the multi-dimensional activities of the three-day conference on climate change and development organized by Genlab under the initiative of South Climate Conclave – Bangladesh Chapter of Climate Action Champions Network (CACN), an initiative of five South Asian countries came to a close.

Earlier, on the second day, the participants were taken to a fishers village at Rastarpara where they interaceted to the fishers and found how they were striving to sustain their living fighting against climate disaster. On the 3^rd and final day of the conference, a Knowledge Spell session was held at the ballroom of Hotel Ocean Paradise from 8 am to 12 pm. Here, climate activists and speakers spoke about the potential of social media for an effective application to address issues including climate disaster prevention, climate migration, climate and gender. Besides, the participants also shared their stories of suffering caused by the climate disaster in light of their own experience.
