ব্রিটিশ কাউন্সিলের আয়োজনে স্টাডি ইউকে অ্যালামনাই অ্যাওয়ার্ডস UK Alumni Awards 2022-23 ceremony
[ঢাকা, ১৪ মার্চ, ২০২৩] ব্রিটিশ কাউন্সিল বাংলাদেশ আয়োজিত একটি অনুষ্ঠানে স্টাডি ইউকে অ্যালামনাই অ্যাওয়ার্ডস ২০২২-২৩ এর বিজয়ীদের নাম ঘোষণা করা করা হয়েছে। গত (১৩ মার্চ) ফুলার রোডে অবস্থিত ব্রিটিশ কাউন্সিল কার্যালয় প্রাঙ্গণে এ অনুষ্ঠান আয়োজিত হয়।
অনুষ্ঠানে ব্যবসায়ী, পেশাজীবী, উদ্যোক্তা ও কমিউনিটি লিডার হিসেবে যুক্তরাজ্যের বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের অ্যালামনাই সদস্যদের পুরস্কৃত করা হয়। যুক্তরাজ্যের বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের প্রাক্তন শিক্ষার্থী, যারা নিজ ক্ষেত্রে অসামান্য কৃতিত্ব অর্জন করেছেন এবং যুক্তরাজ্য ও বাংলাদেশের মধ্যে সম্পর্ক জোরদারে ভূমিকা রেখেছেন তাদের পুরস্কার প্রদানের মাধ্যমে স্বীকৃতি প্রদান করা হয়। অনুষ্ঠানে সরকারের প্রতিনিধি ও যুক্তরাজ্যের অ্যালামনাই সদস্যরা উপস্থিত ছিলেন।
অ্যাওয়ার্ডের বিচারক প্যানেল চারটি বিভাগে বিজয়ী নির্বাচন করেন; বিভাগগুলো হলো: সায়েন্স অ্যান্ড সাসটেইনিবিলিটি অ্যাওয়ার্ড, কালচার অ্যান্ড ক্রিয়েটিভিটি অ্যাওয়ার্ড, সোশ্যাল অ্যাকশন অ্যাওয়ার্ড এবং বিজনেস অ্যান্ড ইনোভেশন অ্যাওয়ার্ড। নবম বছরে এ অ্যাওয়ার্ডের জন্য বিশ্বের প্রায় ১শ’টি দেশ থেকে যুক্তরাজ্যের ১২০টিরও বেশি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের অ্যালামনাইরা আবেদন করেন।
অনুষ্ঠানে বাংলাদেশে নিযুক্ত ব্রিটিশ হাই কমিশনার রবার্ট চ্যাটার্টন ডিকসন বলেন, “এ বছরের স্টাডি ইউকে অ্যালামনাই অ্যাওয়ার্ড অনুষ্ঠানের অংশ হতে পেরে আমি আনন্দিত। আমরা আমাদের অ্যালামনাইদের জন্য অত্যন্ত আনন্দিত, যারা তাদের শিক্ষার মাধ্যমে বিভিন্ন ক্ষেত্রে নেতৃস্থানীয় পর্যায়ে পৌঁছেছেন, সামাজিক পরিবর্তনে ভূমিকা রেখেছেন এবং তাদের আশেপাশের মানুষের জীবনের মানোনয়নে ভূমিকা রেখেছেন। যুক্তরাজ্য এবং বাংলাদেশের মধ্যে একটি শক্তিশালী সম্পর্ক রয়েছে। আমরা যুক্তরাজ্যের বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের প্রাক্তন শিক্ষার্থীদের উভয় দেশের প্রতিনিধি হিসেবে বিবেচনা করি এবং দুই দেশের মানুষের মধ্যে যে সংযোগ রয়েছে, তারাই এর প্রমাণ। সকল ফাইনালিস্ট এবং বিজয়ীদের আমার অভিনন্দন।”
ব্রিটিশ কাউন্সিল বাংলাদেশের কান্ট্রি ডিরেক্টর টম মিশসা বলেন, “যারা যুক্তরাজ্যের বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে উচ্চশিক্ষা গ্রহণ করে অনন্য সাফল্য অর্জন করেছেন এবং দেশে ফিরে এসে বিজ্ঞান, ব্যবসা, সুশীল সমাজ ও সাংস্কৃতিক ক্ষেত্রে দেশের উন্নয়নে ইতিবাচক অবদান রেখেছেন তাদেরকে এ পুরস্কার প্রদানের মাধ্যমে স্বীকৃতি প্রদান করা হয়। নির্বাচিত চার ফাইনালিস্টকে অভিনন্দন এবং যেসব অ্যালামনাই এ অ্যাওয়ার্ডে অংশগ্রহণ করেছেন, তাদের সবাইকে অনেক ধন্যবাদ।”
ইউনিভার্সিটি অব ওয়ারউইকের অ্যালামনাই আরিক আনাম খান কালচার অ্যান্ড ক্রিয়েটিভিটি পুরস্কার পেয়েছেন। তিনি ফোরকাস্ট ফিলমসের সহ-প্রতিষ্ঠাতা ও এক্সিকিউটিভ প্রডিউসার।
সোশ্যাল অ্যাকশন পুরস্কার পেয়েছেন ইউনিভার্সিটি অব ইস্ট লন্ডনের প্রাক্তন শিক্ষার্থী কাজী হাসান রবিন। তিনি একাধারে অ্যাকাডেমিশিয়ান, গবেষক ও লেখক। তিনি ইয়ুথ লিডারশিপ কার্নিভাল ২০১৯ -এ ইয়ুথ এক্সেলেন্স পুরস্কার পেয়েছেন।
ইউনিভার্সিটি অব বার্মিংহামের প্রাক্তন শিক্ষার্থী মো. সামিউল মাহমুদ পেয়েছেন বিজনেস অ্যান্ড ইনোভেশন পুরস্কার। তিনি অর্থ মন্ত্রণালয় ও বিশ্ব ব্যাংকের ফাইন্যান্স রিফর্মে সিনিয়র কনসালটেন্ট হিসেবে দায়িত্ব পালন করেছেন।
সায়েন্স অ্যান্ড সাসটেইনিবিলিটি পুরস্কার পেয়েছেন ড. সাকিব আমিন। তিনি যুক্তরাজ্যের দু’টি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে অধ্যয়ন করেছেন, যথা: ইউনিভার্সিটি অব এসেক্স এবং ইউনিভার্সিটি অব ডুরহাম। তিনি নর্থ সাউথ ইউনিভার্সিটিতে অর্থনীতি বিভাগের সহযোগী অধ্যাপক।
British Council organises Study UK Alumni Awards 2022-23 ceremony
[Dhaka, March 14, 2023]The winners of the Study UK Alumni Awards 2022-23 in Bangladesh were announced at a ceremony hosted by the British Council Bangladesh. The event occurred at their office premises in Fuller Road, Dhaka, on March 13, 2023.
Alum members of UK universities from Bangladesh were recognised for their outstanding achievements as business professionals, entrepreneurs, and community leaders and for their contribution to strengthening ties between the UK and Bangladesh. Senior representatives from the government and UK alums attended the ceremony.
The Award judging panel selected recipients based on the four categories: Science and Sustainability Award, Culture and Creativity Award, Social Action Award, and Business and Innovation Award. Now in its ninth year, the award has received impressive numbers of applications from international UK alums from nearly 100 countries, representing more than 120 UK higher education institutions.
Robert Chatterton Dickson, British High Commissioner, Bangladesh, said, “I am delighted to be a part of this year’s Study UK Alumni Award ceremony. We are immensely proud of our alums, who have built on their education to become leaders in different fields and champions of social change, enriching the lives of those around them. The UK and Bangladesh share a strong and modern partnership. We consider British university alums to be ambassadors for both countries and are a testament to our strong people-to-people links. My congratulations to all our finalists and winners.”
Tom Miscioscia, Country Director, British Council, Bangladesh, added, “These national Study UK Alumni Awards recognise the achievements of remarkable individuals who studied at UK universities and who – following that opportunity – have returned to Bangladesh to positively shape the country’s development across science, business, civil society, and the cultural sector. Congratulations to the four finalists on their selection, and many thanks to all the UK alumni who participated in these awards.”
Ariq Anam Khan, an alumnus of the University of Warwick, has received The Culture and Creativity award. He is also the co-founder and Executive Producer at Forecast Films.
The Social Action award was given to Kazi Hassan Robin, an alumnus of the University of East London. He is an academician, researcher, and author who has also been recognised with the Youth Excellence Award at the Youth Leadership Carnival-2019.
Md. Samiul Mahmud, an alumnus of the University of Birmingham, has received The Business and Innovation award. He has served as a Senior Consultant in public finance reform in Bangladesh by the Ministry of Finance and the World Bank.
The Science and Sustainability award was given to Dr Sakib Amin, an alumnus of two prestigious universities in the UK: the University of Essex and the University of Durham. He is an Associate Professor of Economics at North South University.
