Ambassador M Shahidul Islam presents credentials to the Colombian President as the non-resident Ambassador of Bangladesh to Colombia
Washington, D.C, 02 July 2021:Bangladesh Ambassador to the USA H.E. M Shahidul Islam presented his Letters of Credence as the non-resident Ambassador to President of the Republic of Colombia, His Excellency Iván Duque Márquez, in a ceremony held at the Presidential Palace in Bogota, Colombia on 30 June 2021.
Ambassador Islam conveyed the warm greetings of the Hon’ble President and the Hon’ble Prime Minister of Bangladesh during a meeting with the President held after the presentation ceremony. He noted that Bangladesh and Colombia enjoy excellent relations, and both these countries share similar views on many international issues like international peace, security and stability, fight against terrorism and violent extremism, Human Rights, 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, Climate Change, etc. He also added that it is time to explore the untapped potentials of the two countries for further strengthening the relations in diverse areas. Besides, he also thanked the Colombian Government for their consistent support to the UN on the Rohingya issue. He underscored that his prime objective as the Ambassador to Colombia would be to explore the potential for deepening cooperation and overall relations between the two countries and two peoples.
Appreciating Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s leadership role in promoting the cause of the climate-vulnerable countries, the President agreed to participate at the High-Level Opening Session of the Climate Vulnerable Finance Summit organised by the Vulnerable Twenty (V20) Group of Ministers of Finance, which Bangladesh presides, to take place virtually on 08 July 2021.
The Colombian President accepted the Letter of Credence as the symbol of friendship between two countries and emphasized that the two countries have common goals and aspirations, and they would continue to work together to strengthen the bilateral relations.
.Earlier, the Ambassador attended a luncheon reception hosted by Vice President and Foreign Minister of Colombia Ms. Marta Lucía Ramírez. They discussed a range of bilateral issues, including Enhancement of Bilateral Engagement, Economic and Trade cooperation, Upcoming challenges with the COVID pandemic, Vaccine cooperation, Rohingya issue, Counterterrorism. Later the Ambassador met Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Francisco Echeverri Lara and other senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Colombia.

ওয়াশিংটন, ডিসি, ০২ জুলাই ২০২১: যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে নিযুক্ত বাংলাদেশের রাষ্ট্রদূত এম শহিদুল ইসলাম গত ৩০ জুন কলম্বিয়ার রাজধানী বোগোটায় রাষ্ট্রপতি ভবনে আয়োজিত এক অনুষ্ঠানে কলম্বিয়া প্রজাতন্ত্রের রাষ্ট্রপতি ইভান ডুকে মারকুয়েজের নিকট অনাবাসিক রাষ্ট্রদূত হিসেবে তাঁর পরিচয়পত্র পেশ করেছেন ।
কলম্বিয়ার রাষ্ট্রপতির সাথে বৈঠককালে রাষ্ট্রদূত শহিদুল ইসলাম বাংলাদেশের রাষ্ট্রপতি আব্দুল হামিদ এবং প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনার শুভেচ্ছা পৌছে দেন। বাংলাদেশ ও কলম্বিয়ার মধ্যে চমৎকার দ্বিপাক্ষিক সম্পর্ক বিদ্যমান উল্লেখ করে তিনি বলেন উভয় দেশ আন্তর্জাতিক শান্তি, নিরাপত্তা ও স্থিতিশীলতা, সন্ত্রাসবাদ ও সহিংস উগ্রবাদের বিরুদ্ধে লড়াই, মানবাধিকার, টেকসই উন্নয়ন এজেন্ডা ২০৩০, জলবায়ু পরিবর্তনসহ অনেক আন্তর্জাতিক ইস্যুতে অভিন্ন মত পোষণ করে। বিভিন্ন ক্ষেত্রে সম্পর্ক আরও জোরদার করার জন্য দুদেশের সহযোগিতা বৃ্দ্ধির সম্ভাবনাময় ক্ষেত্রসমূহ কাজে লাগানোর উপর তিনি গুরুত্বারোপ করেন। এছাড়াও তিনি রোহিঙ্গা ইস্যুতে জাতিসংঘকে নিরবচ্ছিন্নভাবে সমর্থন প্রদান করার জন্য কলম্বিয়ার সরকারকে ধন্যবাদ জানান। দুদেশের জনগণের মধ্যে সহযোগিতা ও সামগ্রিক সম্পর্ক গভীরতর করার লক্ষ্যে তিনি কাজ করবেন বলে রাষ্ট্রদূত আশা প্রকাশ করেন।
রাষ্ট্রপতি মারকুয়েজ জলবায়ু-ঝুঁকিপূর্ণ দেশগুলির পক্ষে প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনার নেতৃত্বের প্রশংসা করেন এবং ক্লাইমেট ভালনারেবল ফাইন্যান্স সামিটের উদ্বোধনী অধিবেশনে অংশ নিতে সম্মতি জ্ঞাপন করেন। ভার্চুয়াল প্লাটফর্মে অনুষ্ঠিতব্য উক্ত সম্মেলনে সভাপতিত্ব করবে বাংলাদেশ।
কলম্বিয়ার রাষ্ট্রপতি মারকুয়েজ দু’দেশের মধ্যে বন্ধুত্বের প্রতীক হিসাবে রাষ্ট্রদূতের পরিচয়পত্র গ্রহণ করেন এবং আশাবাদ ব্যক্ত করেন যে দু’দেশ তাদের অভিন্ন লক্ষ্য এবং আকাঙ্ক্ষা বাস্তবায়ন করতে এবং দ্বিপাক্ষিক সম্পর্ক আরো জোরদার করতে একযোগে কাজ করবে।
এর আগে, রাষ্ট্রদূত কলম্বিয়ার ভাইস প্রেসিডেন্ট এবং পররাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী মার্টা লুসিয়া রামিরেজের আমন্ত্রণে এক মধ্যাহ্নভোজে অংশ গ্রহণ করেন। তারা দ্বিপাক্ষিক সহযোগিতার ক্ষেত্র বৃদ্ধি, অর্থনৈতিক সহযোগিতা ও বাণিজ্য সম্প্রসারণ, কোভিড অতিমারীর সাথে আগত সংকটসমূহ মোকাবিলা, ভ্যাকসিন সহযোগিতা, রোহিঙ্গা সমস্যা, সন্ত্রাসবাদ মোকাবিলাসহ বিভিন্ন দ্বিপাক্ষিক বিষয় নিয়ে আলোচনা করেন। পরে রাষ্ট্রদূত কলম্বিয়ার উপপররাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী ফ্রান্সিসকো এচেভেরি লারা এবং দেশটির পররাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয়ের ঊর্ধ্বতন কর্মকর্তাদের সাথে পৃথক বৈঠকে মিলিত হন।
