Shah Bahauddin: Official Provincial Candidate for Liberal Party

Shah Bahauddin: Official Provincial Candidate for Liberal Party – Kabir Chowdhury

I have always dreamed that one day we would be representing our people and participating in a process that allows us to make decisions for us. My dream has been to see a Bangladeshi Canadian being elected to the Parliament and to be able to represent us. Shah Bahauddin has finally made my dream come true. On March 6, 2021 Shah won the Ontario Liberal Party nominations and is the official candidate for the Nepean Region of Ottawa. To be able to see my long-time Bangladeshi Canadian friend participate in Canadian politics and get elected in the Parliament has been an honour. I am privileged to say that our fellow Bangladeshi Canadian, Shah Bahauddin has made not only my dream, but the dreams of many into a reality. He is the first Bangladeshi born Canadian to win the Ontario Liberal Party nomination for Nepean constituency.  According to the current OLP leader Steven Del Duca, “Shah truly understands what his community needs to continue to grow and prosper, which is why I know he will make a fantastic representative for Nepean.” Along with this he stated his gratitude by saying, “I’m very happy to have Shah on our team as we get ready to take on Doug Ford in the next election.” The official provincial election is scheduled to be on 2022 and I have a strong feeling that he will be a great contender and win.

Shah Bahauddin is a Bangladeshi-Canadian. He was born in Bangladesh and at the age of 19, he left Dhaka to study Engineering at Vladimir State University, Russia. From there he was able to obtain his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in computer engineering. After completing his studies in Russia, he and his wife moved to Texas, USA (1998) for two years. He decided in 2000 it was time for a permanent move, thus Shah Bahauddin and his wife came to Canada as skilled immigrants and settled in Ottawa.

During his first years in Ottawa, he initially worked as an Engineer in various hi-tech companies, and later attended the University of Ottawa where he completed his master’s degree in engineering management. For the past eight years, however, he has been employed as a real estate agent with Royal LePage based in Nepean. His position as a realtor has given him a thorough understanding and awareness of our diverse community with the challenges and concerns that we are facing.

Shah Bahauddin is a very active member of the community and partakes in activities and mainstream politics. He has been involved with the Ontario Liberal Party and continues to support both the Nepean and Carleton Provincial Liberal Riding Associations. Presently, he is the President of the Bangladesh-Canada Association of Ottawa Valley. In addition to this, he spends his time volunteering for the South Nepean Muslim Center (SNMC), Mother Teresa High School, co-hosts at CHIN radio and is currently the Director of Implementation, International Mother Language Day (IMLD) in an organization called “Mother Language Lovers of the World Society”; which actively promotes awareness and the preservation of mother tongues around the world.
Finally, I would like to congratulate him and his team on making this dream come true.
