জাতীয় শোক দিবস ও জাতির পিতা বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমানের ৪৭তম শাহাদত বার্ষিকী পালনের অংশ হিসেবে আজ বিকেলে ওয়াশিংটন ডিসিতে বাংলাদেশ দূতাবাস কর্তৃক আয়োজিত সেমিনারে প্রধান অতিথির বক্তব্যে জ্বালানি উপদেষ্টা এসব কথা বলেন।
যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে নিযুক্ত বাংলাদেশের রাষ্ট্রদূত মোঃ শহিদুল ইসলামের সভাপতিত্বে অনুষ্ঠিত ‘‘Deportation of the killer of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman: A long pending issue in Bangladesh-US relations”শীর্ষক সেমিনারে মূল প্রবন্ধ উপস্থাপন করেন নর্থ ক্যারোলিনা সেন্ট্রাল ইউনিভার্সিটির অধ্যাপক ড. এবিএম নাসির।
বীর মুক্তিযোদ্ধা ড. তৌফিক-ই-ইলাহী চৌধুরী বলেন, বঙ্গবন্ধুর খুনির যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে অব্যাহত অবস্থান দুই দেশের মধ্যে বিরাজমান চমৎকার দ্বিপাক্ষিক সম্পর্কের ক্ষেত্রে দুর্ভাগ্যজনক, এবং রাশেদ চৌধুরীর প্রত্যর্পণ বাংলাদেশ-যুক্তরাষ্ট্র সম্পর্কের ক্ষেত্রে একটি ‘গেম-চেঞ্জার’ হবে বলে মত প্রকাশ করেন।
রাষ্ট্রদূত তার বক্তব্যে খুনি রাশেদ চৌধুরীকে প্রত্যর্পণ নিশ্চিত করতে আওয়ামী লীগ সরকারের বিভিন্ন প্রচেষ্টার একটি সংক্ষিপ্ত বিবরণ তুলে ধরেন।
তিনি বলেন, সেমিনার আয়োজনের মূল উদ্দেশ্য ছিল বাংলাদেশ-যুক্তরাষ্ট্র সম্পর্ক আরও দৃঢ় করতে বঙ্গবন্ধুর জঘন্য খুনিকে প্রত্যর্পণের জরুরি প্রয়োজন সম্পর্কে মার্কিন জনগন এবং বাংলাদেশি-আমেরিকান প্রবাসীদের মধ্যে বৃহত্তর সচেতনতা তৈরি করা।
অধ্যাপক ড. এবিএম নাসির তার মূল প্রবন্ধে বলেন, খুনি রাশেদ চৌধুরী তিন শিশু, দুই গর্ভবতী নারী ও অন্যান্য নিরস্ত্র সাধারণ মানুষকে নৃশংসভাবে হত্যা করে মানবতাবিরোধী অপরাধ করেছেন। তিনি অবিলম্বে রাশেদ চৌধুরীকে আটক ও প্রত্যর্পণের জন্য মার্কিন সরকারের কাছে দাবি জানান।
ডেপুটি চীফ অব মিশন ফেরদৌসী শাহরিয়ার সেমিনারে সঞ্চালনা করেন। বিশিষ্ট অভিনেতা সৈয়দ হাসান ইমাম, বিশিষ্ট কোরিওগ্রাফার ও নৃত্যশিল্পী লায়লা হাসান, প্রখ্যাত সংবাদ পাঠক সরকার কবির উদ্দিন, বীর মুক্তিযোদ্ধা হারুন চৌধুরী, দূতাবাসের কাউন্সেলর আরিফা রহমান রুমা এবং মেট্রো ওয়াশিংটন আওয়ামী লীগের সাধারণ সম্পাদক মোঃ শফিকুল আজম আজাদ প্রমুখ সেমিনারে বক্তব্য রাখেন।
1975 সালের 15 আগস্টের হত্যাযজ্ঞে নির্মমভাবে নিহত সর্বকালের সর্বশ্রেষ্ঠ বাঙালি বঙ্গবন্ধু ও তাঁর পরিবারের অন্যান্য সদস্যদের প্রতি গভীর শ্রদ্ধা নিবেদনের জন্য দূতাবাস বিভিন্ন কর্মসূচী গ্রহন করে।
রাষ্ট্রদূত মোঃ শহিদুল ইসলাম কর্তৃক আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে জাতীয় পতাকা অর্ধনমিত করার মধ্য দিয়ে দিবসের কর্মসূচি শুরু হয়। এ সময় জাতীয় সঙ্গীত বাজানো হয়।
অন্যান্য কর্মসূচির মধ্যে ছিল রাষ্ট্রদূত কর্তৃক জাতির পিতার আবক্ষ মূর্তিতে পুষ্পস্তবক অর্পণ, বঙ্গবন্ধু ও ১৫ আগস্টের অন্যান্য শহিদদের স্মৃতির প্রতি গভীর শ্রদ্ধা প্রদর্শন করে এক মিনিট নিরবতা পালন এবং বঙ্গবন্ধুর জীবন ও কর্মের ওপর একটি আলোকচিত্র প্রদর্শনীর আয়োজন। ১৭ দিনব্যাপী আলোকচিত্র প্রদর্শনীর উদ্বোধন করেন প্রধানমন্ত্রীর জ্বালানি বিষয়ক উপদেষ্টা।
মহামান্য রাষ্ট্রপতি, মাননীয় প্রধানমন্ত্রী, পররাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী ও প্রতিমন্ত্রীর বাণী পাঠ করেন প্রতিরক্ষা অ্যাটাচে ব্রিগেডিয়ার জেনারেল মোঃ শাহেদুল ইসলাম, মিনিস্টার (প্রেস) এজেডএম সাজ্জাদ হোসেন, মিনিস্টার (পলিটিক্যাল-১) দেওয়ান আলী আশরাফ এবং মিনিস্টার (পলিটিক্যাল-২) মোঃ রাশেদুজ্জামান।
কাউন্সেলর মোহাম্মদ মনিরুজ্জামান এবং কাউন্সেলর ও হেড অব চ্যান্সারি মোঃ মাহমুদুল ইসলাম যথাক্রমে বিকেল ও সকালের অনুষ্ঠান পরিচালনা করেন।
Killer Rashed Chowdhury’s deportation can be a game-changer in Bangladesh-US ties: Prime Minister’s Energy Adviser
Washington DC, 15th August, 2022 –Adviser to the Prime Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Dr. Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, BB, has sought sincere cooperation of the US government to deport Rashed Chowdhury, the fugitive convicted killer of Bangabandhu, to Bangladesh immediately to face Justice.
The Energy Adviser was speaking as the chief guest at a seminar on Monday (15 August) afternoon organised by Bangladesh Embassy in Washington DC as part of the observance of the National Mourning Day and the 47th martyrdom anniversary of Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Bangladesh Ambassador to the United States M Shahidul Islam presided over the seminar titled “Deportation of the killer of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman: A long pending issue in Bangladesh-US relations” and North Carolina Central University Professor Dr ABM Nasir presented the keynote paper at the event.
Dr. Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, a gallantry award-recipient valiant Freedom Fighter, said that the continued stay of Bangabandhu’s killer in the US was unfortunate given the excellent bilateral relations, and opined that extradition of Rashed Chowdhury would be a game-changer in Bangladesh-US relations.
The Ambassador, in his remarks, gave an overview on the Awami League government’s efforts to secure deportation of Bangabandhu’s self-confessed killer Rashed Chowdhury.
The main objective of the seminar was to create greater awareness among the US citizens and Bangladeshi-American diaspora of the urgent need for extradition of the heinous killer of Bangabandhu to further solidify Bangladesh-US relations, Ambassador Shahidul Islam added.
Professor Dr ABM Nasir, in his keynoter paper, said killer Rashed Chowdhury has committed crimes against humanity by brutally killing three children, two pregnant females and other unarmed civilians. He demanded of the US government to immediately detain and deport Rashed Chowdhury.
Deputy Chief of Mission Ferdousi Shahriar moderated the seminar, while eminent actor Syed Hasan Imam, noted choreographer and dancer Laila Hasan, renowned newscaster Sarkar Kabir Uddin, valiant Freedom Fighter Harun Chowdhury, Counsellor of the Embassy Arifa Rahman Ruma and General Secretary of Washington Metro Awami League Shafiqul Azam Azad spoke at the seminar, among others.
The Prime Minister’s Energy Adviser earlier inaugurated a 17-day long photo exhibition on the life and works of the Father of the Nation at Bangabandhu Auditorium.
The Embassy chalked out elaborate programs to pay deepest homage to Bangabandhu, the greatest Bengali of all time who was brutally assassinated along with most of his family members on the fateful night of August 15 in 1975.
The day’s programs began in the morning with the ceremonial hoisting of the national flag at half-mast by Ambassador Shahidul Islam. The national anthem was played at this time.
Later, the Ambassador accompanied by the Embassy officers, placed a floral wreath at the bust of the Father of the Nation at the Bangabandhu Corner.
Messages of Hon’ble President, Hon’ble Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and State Minister were read out by Defence Attaché Brig Gen Md Shahedul Islam, Minister (Press) AZM Sajjad Hossain, Minister (Political-I) Dewan Ali Ashraf and Minister (Political-II) Md Rashedujjaman.
Counsellor Mohammad Moniruzzaman and Counsellor and Head of Chancery Md Mahmudul Islam conducted the programs in the afternoon and morning respectively.
