পোপ ফ্রান্সিস কানাডার আদিবাসীদের কাছে ক্ষমা চেয়েছেন
খ্রীষ্টান সম্প্রদায়ের ধর্মীয় নেতা ও বিশ্বব্যাপী ক্যাথলিক চার্চের প্রধান ভ্যাটিকেনের পোপ ফ্রান্সিস কানাডায় সফরে এসে কানাডার আদিবাসীদের সামনে দাঁড়িয়ে রোমান ক্যাথলিক চার্চের দ্বারা অতীতে সংঘটিত “দুঃখজনক মন্দ”কাজের জন্য বিনম্র চিত্তে তাদের কাছে ক্ষমা প্রার্থনা করেন। আদিবাসীদের কাছে পোপ ফ্রান্সিসের বিনম্র চিত্তে ক্ষমা প্রার্থনা দেখে আদিবাসী প্রবীণদের এবং আবাসিক বিদ্যালয়ের বেঁচে যাওয়া ব্যক্তিদের মুখ দিয়ে অশ্রু ঝরছিল। সোমবার ২৫ জুলাই পোপ ফ্রান্সিস আর্মিনস্কিন ইন্ডিয়ান রেসিডেন্সিয়াল স্কুলের প্রাক্তন সাইট পরিদর্শন করার পরে আলবার্টার মাস্কওয়াসিসএ আদিবাসী আবাসিক স্কুল থেকে বেঁচে যাওয়াদের কাছে ক্ষমা প্রার্থনা করেছেন।
পোপ ফ্রান্সিস, কানাডায় আলবার্টার মাস্কওয়াসিসএ তাঁর প্রথম জনসাধারণের উপস্থিতিতে বলেছেন, তিনি দুঃখিত যে, গির্জা তাদের সাংস্কৃতিকে ধ্বংস এবং আদিবাসীদের জোরপূর্বক ধর্মান্তকরণে অংশ নিয়েছিল।
২৫ জুলাই, সোমবার পোপ ফ্রান্সিস কানাডার আদিবাসী সম্প্রদায়ের পাউওয়াউ গ্রাউন্ডে একজন অনুবাদকের মাধ্যমে বলেন যে“এই দুঃখজনক মন্দের মুখে, গির্জা ঈশ্বরের সামনে নতজানু হয় এবং তার সন্তানদের পাপের জন্য ক্ষমা প্রার্থনা করে। আমি আদিবাসীদের বিরুদ্ধে অনেক খ্রিস্টান দ্বারা সংঘটিত মন্দ কাজের জন্য বিনীতভাবে ক্ষমা প্রার্থনা করছি।“ আদিবাসীদের কাছে পোপ ফ্রান্সিসের বিনম্র চিত্তে ক্ষমা চাওয়াটা কানাডার আদিবাসী সম্প্রদায় (Aborigins) , কানাডার সরকার ও ক্যাথলিক চার্চ বিভিন্ন মিডিয়া পোপ ফ্রান্সিসের মহানুভবতার খুবই প্রশংসা করেন।

Pope Francis delivered an apology to Indigenous residential school
survivors at Maskwacis in the province of Alberta after a visit to the former
site of the Ermineskin Indian Residential School on Monday,the 25 th July.
Tears streamed down the faces of Indigenous elders and survivors
of residential schools as Pope Francis stood before them and begged
forgiveness for the “deplorable evil” committed by the Roman Catholic
Church.
Pope Francis, at his first public appearance in Canada at Maskwacis in
Alberta, said he was sorry the church took part in the cultural destruction
and forced assimilation of Indigenous people.
“In the face of this deplorable evil, the church kneels before God and
implores his forgiveness for the sins of her children. I humbly beg
forgiveness for the evil committed by so many Christians against the
Indigenous Peoples,” Francis said Monday through a translator at the
community’s powwow grounds.
