Bangabandhu’s 104th birth anniversary celebrated in Washington
Bangabandhu’s life and Bangladesh’s history are tied to same stint: Ambassador Imran
Washington DC, 17 March, 2024 – The 104th birth anniversary of greatest Bangalee of all time Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the National Children’s Day-2024 was celebrated at Bangladesh Embassy in Washington DC today (Sunday) with due respect and festivity.
To celebrate the day, the Embassy organized elaborate programs which included hoisting of the National Flag, placing a floral wreath at the bust of Bangabandhu, discussion meeting, essay and painting competitions for the children and screening of documentaries on Bangabandhu.
The day’s programs of the Embassy began in the morning with ceremonially hoisting of the National Flag in front of the Chancery Building by Ambassador Mr. Muhammad Imran. Officials and employees of the Mission were present at that time.
Later, the Ambassador placed a floral wreath at the bust of the Father of the Nation at Bangabandhu Corner in the presence of the officials and employees of the Mission.
Messages issued on the occasion by Hon’ble President, the Hon’ble Prime Minister, and the Foreign Minister were read out by Minister (Consular) Md Habibur Rahman, Minister (Commerce) Md Salim Reza and Minister (Economic) Dr. Md Fazle Rabbi.
Taking part in the discussion, Ambassador Imran paid glowing tributes to the Father of the Nation and recalled his long struggle from the great Language Movement to the War of Liberation to achieve the much-anticipated independence of Bengali nation.
Describing Bangabandhu as an uncompromising and fearless leader, he said the life of the great leader and the history of Bangladesh are tied to the same stint.
While talking about the National Children’s Day, the Ambassador said the government led by Bangabandhu’s able daughter and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken various programs to make the country a safe abode for the future generations.
He hoped that the new generation would be the main driving force to lead the nation and put it in a more dignified position in the world in future. Ambassador Imran requested the guardians to let the children know about Bangabandhu’s great sacrifice for independence and rebuilding the war-ravaged nation alongside Bangladesh’s rich history, culture and heritage.
He also called upon all to work unitedly under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to build a happy and prosperous Bangladesh free from hunger and poverty by embracing the spirit of the Liberation War and the ideology of the Father of the Nation.
Minister (Press) AZM Sajjad Hossain also took part in the discussion highlighting Bangabandhu’s long struggle for independence and huge contribution to rebuilding war-ravaged nation.
The morning part of the programs ended with offering a special prayer seeking eternal peace of the departed soul of Bangabandhu and other martyrs of the August 15 carnage as well as continued peace, progress and prosperity of the nation.
Later in the evening, the Ambassador cut a cake with the participation of the children and distributed prizes among the winners of the essay and painting competitions. First Secretary (Passport & Visa Wing) Muhammad Abdul Hye Milton and First Secretary Ataur Rahman conducted the programs.

ওয়াশিংটন ডিসি।। যথাযোগ্য মর্যাদা এবং ব্যাপক উৎসাহ ও উদ্দীপনার মধ্য দিয়ে আজ (রবিবার) ওয়াশিংটন ডিসিস্থ বাংলাদেশ দূতাবাসে সর্বকালের সর্বশ্রেষ্ঠ বাঙালি জাতির পিতা বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমানের ১০৪তম জন্মবার্ষিকী ও জাতীয় শিশু দিবস-2024 উদযাপিত হয়েছে।
দিবসটি উদযাপন উপলক্ষ্যে দূতাবাস বিস্তারিত কর্মসূচি গ্রহণ করে। যার মধ্যে ছিল জাতীয় পতাকা উত্তোলন, বঙ্গবন্ধুর আবক্ষ প্রতিকৃতিতে পুষ্পস্তবক অর্পণ, আলোচনাসভা, শিশুদের জন্য রচনা ও চিত্রাঙ্কণ প্রতিযোগিতা এবং বঙ্গবন্ধুর জীবন ও কর্মের ওপর প্রামাণ্যচিত্র প্রদর্শন।
সকালে রাষ্ট্রদূত মোহাম্মদ ইমরান কর্তৃক দূতাবাস প্রাঙ্গণে আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে জাতীয় পতাকা উত্তোলনের মধ্য দিয়ে দিনের কর্মসূচি শুরু হয়। এ সময় দূতাবাসের কর্মকর্তা-কর্মচারীরা উপস্থিত ছিলেন।পরে রাষ্ট্রদূত মিশনের কর্মকর্তা-কর্মচারীদের উপস্থিতিতে বঙ্গবন্ধু কর্নারে জাতির পিতার আবক্ষ প্রতিকৃতিতে পুষ্পস্তবক অর্পণ করে তার প্রতি গভীর শ্রদ্ধা জানান।
বঙ্গবন্ধু মিলনায়তনে দিবসটি উপলক্ষে মহামান্য রাষ্ট্রপতি, মাননীয় প্রধানমন্ত্রী, ও পররাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী প্রদত্ত বাণী পাঠ করে শোনান যথাক্রমে মিনিস্টার (কনস্যুলার) মোহাম্মদ হাবিবুর রহমান, মিনিস্টার (কর্মাস) মোঃ সেলিম রেজা এবং মিনিস্টার (ইকোনমিক) ড. মোঃ ফজলে রাব্বি ।
আলোচনায় অংশ নিয়ে রাষ্ট্রদূত ইমরান স্বাধীনতার মহান স্থপতি বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমানের প্রতি গভীর শ্রদ্ধা নিবেদন করেন এবং বাঙালি জাতির বহুল প্রতীক্ষিত স্বাধীনতা অর্জনে মহান ভাষা আন্দোলন থেকে মুক্তিযুদ্ধ পর্যন্ত তাঁর দীর্ঘ সংগ্রামের কথা শ্রদ্ধার সাথে স্মরণ করেন।
বঙ্গবন্ধুকে একজন আপোষহীন ও নির্ভীক নেতা হিসেবে আখ্যায়িত করে তিনি বলেন, মহান নেতার জীবন এবং বাংলাদেশের ইতিহাস একই সূত্রে গাঁথা।
তিনি আশাবাদ ব্যক্ত করেন যে জাতিকে সামনে থেকে নেতৃত্ব দিতে এবং বিশ্বে আরও মর্যাদাপূর্ণ অবস্থানে নিয়ে যেতে ভবিষ্যতে নতুন প্রজন্মই হবে প্রধান চালিকা শক্তি। রাষ্ট্রদূত ইমরান বাংলাদেশের সমৃদ্ধ ইতিহাস, সংস্কৃতি ও ঐতিহ্যের পাশাপাশি স্বাধীনতা এবং যুদ্ধবিধ্বস্ত দেশ পুনর্গঠনে বঙ্গবন্ধুর মহান আত্মত্যাগ ও অবদানের কথা শিশুদের সামনে তুলে ধরার জন্য অভিভাবকদের অনুরোধ করেন।
জাতীয় শিশু দিবস প্রসঙ্গে রাষ্ট্রদূত বলেন, বঙ্গবন্ধুর সুযোগ্য কন্যা ও মাননীয় প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনার নেতৃত্বাধীন সরকার দেশকে ভবিষ্যৎ প্রজন্মের জন্য একটি নিরাপদ আবাসস্থল হিসেবে গড়ে তুলতে নানা কর্মসূচি গ্রহণ করেছে।
রাষ্ট্রদূত ইমরান মুক্তিযুদ্ধের চেতনা ও জাতির পিতার আদর্শকে ধারণ করে মাননীয় প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনার নেতৃত্বে ক্ষুধা ও দারিদ্র্যমুক্ত সুখী-সমৃদ্ধ বাংলাদেশ গড়তে সবাইকে ঐক্যবদ্ধভাবে কাজ করার আহ্বান জানান।
মিনিস্টার (প্রেস) এজেডএম সাজ্জাদ হোসেন আলোচনায় অংশ নেন এবং জাতির বহুল প্রতীক্ষিত স্বাধীনতা অর্জনের পথ পরিক্রমায় বঙ্গবন্ধুর দীর্ঘ সংগ্রাম এবং যুদ্ধবিধ্বস্ত দেশ পূনর্গঠনে তার অসামান্য অবদানের কথা বিস্তারিতভাবে তুলে ধরেন।
বঙ্গবন্ধু ও ১৫ আগস্টের অন্যান্য শহিদের বিদেহী আত্মার মাগফেরাত এবং জাতির অব্যাহত শান্তি, অগ্রগতি ও সমৃদ্ধি কামনা করে বিশেষ মোনাজাতের মাধ্যমে সকালের অনুষ্ঠান শেষ হয়।
পরবর্তীতে সন্ধ্যার অনুষ্ঠানে রাষ্ট্রদূত শিশু-কিশোরদের অংশগ্রহণে কেক কাটেন এবং রচনা ও চিত্রাঙ্কন প্রতিযোগিতায় বিজয়ীদের মধ্যে পুরস্কার বিতরণ করেন। দূতাবাসের এই দুই পর্বের অনুষ্ঠান পরিচালনা করেন ফার্স্ট সেক্রেটারি (পাসপোর্ট ও ভিসা উইং) মুহাম্মদ আব্দুল হাই মিলটন ও ফার্স্ট সেক্রেটারি আতাউর রহমান।
