ওয়াশিংটন ডিসি, ২৩ মে — ওয়াশিংটন ডিসিতে অবস্থিত বাংলাদেশ দূতাবাস আজ (মঙ্গলবার) যথাযোগ্য মর্যাদায় সর্বকালের সর্বশ্রেষ্ঠ বাঙালি জাতির পিতা বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমানকে বিশ্বশান্তি পরিষদ কর্তৃক জুলিও কুরি শান্তি পদক প্রদানের সুবর্ণ জয়ন্তী উদযাপন করেছে।
১৯৭৩ সালের এই দিনে মহান স্বাধীনতার স্থপতি এবং গণতন্ত্র ও শান্তি আন্দোলনের অগ্রদূত বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান বিশ্ব শান্তি পরিষদ কর্তৃক জুলিও কুরি শান্তি পুরস্কারে ভূষিত হন।
ঐতিহাসিক এই দিনটি উপলক্ষে বাংলাদেশ দূতাবাস জাতির পিতার প্রতি গভীর শ্রদ্ধা নিবেদন এবং বিশ্ব শান্তি প্রতিষ্ঠায় তার অসামান্য অবদানকে স্মরণ করে এক কর্মসূচি গ্রহণ করে।
রাষ্ট্রদূত মোহাম্মদ ইমরানের নেতৃত্বে দূতাবাসের কর্মকর্তা-কর্মচারী কর্তৃক বঙ্গবন্ধু কর্নারে অবস্থিত জাতির পিতার আবক্ষ মূর্তিতে পুষ্পস্তবক অর্পণের মধ্য দিয়ে দিনের অনুষ্ঠান শুরু হয়।
এ উপলক্ষে দূতাবাসের বঙ্গবন্ধু মিলনায়তনে মহামান্য রাষ্ট্রপতি মোঃ সাহাবুদ্দিন ও মাননীয় প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনা প্রদত্ত বাণী পাঠ করে শোনান ডেপুটি চিফ অব মিশন ফেরদৌসী শাহরিয়ার এবং কাউন্সেলর (পাবলিক ডিপ্লোমেসি) আরিফা রহমান রুমা। এরপর একটি তথ্যচিত্র প্রদর্শন করা হয়।
পরে বাংলাদেশের মহান মুক্তিযুদ্ধে বঙ্গবন্ধুর অবিসংবাদিত নেতৃত্ব এবং বিশ্ব শান্তি প্রতিষ্ঠায় তার অসামান্য অবদান তুলে ধরে এক আলোচনাসভা অনুষ্ঠিত হয়।
আলোচনায় অংশ নিয়ে রাষ্ট্রদূত মোহাম্মদ ইমরান বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমানের প্রতি গভীর শ্রদ্ধা নিবেদন করেন এবং স্বাধীনতা অর্জন ও বিশ্ব শান্তি প্রতিষ্ঠায় তার অবিস্বরণীয় ভূমিকার কথা শ্রদ্ধার সাথে স্মরণ করেন।
২৩ মে বাঙালি জাতির জন্য এক গৌরবময় দিন হিসেবে উল্লেখ করে রাষ্ট্রদূত বলেন জাতির পিতা শান্তি ও স্বাধীনতার জন্য তার সমগ্র জীবন উৎসর্গ করেছিলেন। তিনি বলেন বঙ্গবন্ধুর দীর্ঘ রাজনৈতিক জীবনে তিনি সবসময় দেশ-বিদেশে শান্তিকামী জনগণকে সমর্থন করেছেন এবং তাদের পাশে দাঁড়িয়েছেন।
রাষ্ট্রদূত ইমরান বলেন বিশ্ব শান্তি ও স্বাধীনতা অর্জনে অসামান্য অবদানের জন্য বিশ্ব শান্তি পরিষদ বঙ্গবন্ধুকে তাদের সর্বোচ্চ পুরস্কার জুলিও কুরি শান্তি পদক প্রদান করে।তিনি শোষণ-বঞ্চনামুক্ত শান্তিপূর্ণ বিশ্ব এবং ক্ষুধা ও দারিদ্র্যমুক্ত উন্নত ও সমৃদ্ধ সোনার বাংলা প্রতিষ্ঠার ক্ষেত্রে বঙ্গবন্ধুর অসমাপ্ত স্বপ্ন বাস্তবায়নে সকলকে ঐক্যবদ্ধভাবে কাজ করার আহ্বান জানান।
মিনিস্টার (ইকনোমিক) মোঃ মেহেদি হাসানও আলোচনায় অংশ নেন এবং স্বাধীনতা অর্জন ও বিশ্ব শান্তি প্রতিষ্ঠায় জাতির পিতার দীর্ঘ সংগ্রামের ওপর আলোকপাত করেন।বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান ও ১৯৭৫ সালের ১৫ আগস্ট রাতে শহিদ তার পরিবারের অন্যান্য সদস্যদের বিদেহী আত্মার মাগফেরাত কামনা করে এক বিশেষ মোনাজাতের মাধ্যমে কর্মসূচীর সমাপ্তি হয়। কর্মসূচী পরিচালনা করেন হেড অব চ্যান্সারি ও কাউন্সেলর (পলিটিক্যাল) মোঃ মনিরুজ্জামান।

Bangladesh Embassy in Washington celebrates golden jubilee of conferment of Joliot-Curie Peace Medal on Bangabandhu

Washington DC, 23 May, 2023 —The Bangladesh Embassy in Washington DC today (Tuesday) celebrated the golden jubilee of the conferment of the Joliot-Curie Peace Medal on greatest Bangalee of all time, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in a befitting manner.

On this day in 1973, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the architect of independence and the forerunner of democracy and peace movement, was awarded the Julio-Curie Peace Prize by the World Peace Council.

To commemorate the historic day, the Bangladesh Embassy took a program paying rich tributes to the Father of the Nation and remembering his outstanding contributions to establishing peace in the world.

The program commenced with placing a floral wreath by officials and employees led by Ambassador Muhammad Imran at the bust of Father of the Nation at Bangabandhu Corner of the Embassy.

The messages issued on the occasion by Hon’ble President and the Prime Minister were read out by Deputy Chief of Mission Ms Ferdousi Shahriar and Counsellor (Public Diplomacy) Arifa Rahman Ruma at the auditorium of the embassy. Later, a documentary was screened on the occasion.

Afterward, a discussion highlighting Bangabandhu’s undaunted leadership in Bangladesh’s great Liberation War and advancing world peace movement was held.

Taking part in the discussion, Ambassador Muhammad Imran paid deepest homage to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and recalled his great role in achieving independence and establishing world peace.

Describing May 23 as a glorious day for Bengali nation, the Ambassador said the Father of the Nation dedicated his entire life to the quest for peace and freedom. During his long political career, Bangabandhu always supported the peace-loving people at home and abroad and stood beside them, he said.

Ambassador Imran said the World Peace Council awarded Bangabandhu their highest prize Joliot-Curie Peace Medal for his outstanding contribution to global peace and freedom.

He called upon all to work unitedly to materialize Bangabandhu’s unfinished dream of establishing a peaceful world free from exploitation and deprivation, as well as developed and prosperous ‘Sonar Bangla’ (Golden Bangladesh) free from hunger and poverty.

Minister (Economic) Md. Mahadee Hasan also took part in the discussion and focused on the Father of the Nation’s long struggle to earn independence and establish world peace.

The program ended with offering a special prayer seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his other family members martyred on the fateful night of August 15, 1975. Head of Chancery and Counsellor (Political) Md Moniruzzaman conducted the program.
