অটোয়াস্থ বাংলাদেশ হাইকমিশন কর্তৃক ‘আন্তর্জাতিক মাতৃভাষা দিবস’ পালন
আজ ২১ ফেব্রুয়ারি ২০২৪ তারিখে অটোয়াস্থ বাংলাদেশ হাইকমিশন যথাযোগ্য মর্যাদায় দিনব্যাপী কর্মসূচির মাধ্যমে ‘মহান শহিদ দিবস’ ও ‘আন্তর্জাতিক মাতৃভাষা দিবস পালন করে। দিনের শুরুতে সকাল ১০.০০ ঘটিকায় মিনিস্টার ও ভারপ্রাপ্ত হাইকমিশনার জনাব দেওয়ান হোসনে আইয়ুব হাইকমিশনের অন্যান্য কর্মকর্তা ও কর্মচারীদের উপস্থিতে বাংলাদেশ হাউজে জাতীয় সংগীতের সাথে জাতীয় পতাকা অর্ধনমিত করে উত্তোলন করেন। অত:পর ৫২ এর ভাষা শহিদদের আত্মার মাগফেরাত কামনা করে বিশেষ মোনাজাত করা হয়।
দিবসের পরবর্তী কার্যক্রম হিসেবে হাইকমিশনের মিলনায়তনে বেলা ১২.০০ ঘটিকায় মিনিস্টার ও ভারপ্রাপ্ত হাইকমিশনারের সভাপতিত্বে বিশেষ আলোচনা অনুষ্ঠানের আয়োজন করা হয়। এ অনুষ্ঠানের শুরুতে জাতির পিতা বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমানের প্রতিকৃতিতে পুষ্পস্তবক অর্পণ করা হয় এবং এক মিনিট নীরবতা পালনের মধ্য দিয়ে ভাষা শহিদদের প্রতি শ্রদ্ধা জানানো হয়। এ সময় জাতির পিতা বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান ও তাঁর পরিবারের শহিদ সদস্যবৃন্দ, জাতীয় চার নেতা, দেশের জন্য আত্মোৎসর্গকারী বীর মুক্তিযোদ্ধাদের গভীর শ্রদ্ধাভরে স্মরণ করা হয়। হাইকমিশনের কর্মকর্তা ও কর্মচারী এবং কানাডার বিভিন্ন প্রদেশ ও অঞ্চলের বসবাসকারী প্রবাসী বাংলাদেশি ও বিভিন্ন সংগঠনের প্রতিনিধিগণ এ অনুষ্ঠানে যোগদান করেন।
অনুষ্ঠানের শুরুতেই মহামান্য রাষ্ট্রপতি, মাননীয় প্রধানমন্ত্রী ও মাননীয় পররাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রীর বাণী পাঠ করে শুনানো হয়। বাণী পাঠের পর ভাষা আন্দোলনের উপর একটি প্রামাণ্য চিত্র প্রদর্শন করা হয়। অনুষ্ঠানে আমন্ত্রিত অতিথিবৃন্দ ভাষা আন্দোলনের প্রেক্ষাপট ও তাৎপর্যের ওপর আলোকপাত করেন। সকলেই বাংলা ভাষার প্রসার, চর্চা ও উৎকর্ষ সাধনের ওপর গুরুত্বারোপ করেন। তাঁরা সর্বক্ষেত্রে বাংলা ভাষার চর্চার জন্য ও বাঙালি সংস্কৃতির উন্নয়নে সকলকে ঐক্যবদ্ধভাবে কাজ করতে আহ্বান জানান।
অনুষ্ঠানের সভাপতি মিনিস্টার ও ভারপ্রাপ্ত হাইকমিশনার জনাব দেওয়ান হোসনে আইয়ুব বক্তব্যের শুরুতে জাতির পিতা বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান এবং সালাম, বরকত, রফিক, জব্বার, শফিউর ভাষা আন্দোলন ও মুক্তিযুদ্ধের শহিদদের গভীর শ্রদ্ধার সাথে স্মরণ করেন। সেই সময়কার তরুণ নেতা বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমানের ভাষা আন্দোলনে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ অবদানের কথা তিনি তাঁর বক্তব্যে তুলে ধরেন। ভাষার দাবীতে বঙ্গবন্ধুর বারবার কারাবরণের কথা উল্লেখ করে ভারপ্র্রাপ্ত হাইকমিশনার বলেন, ১৯৪৮ সালের রাষ্ট্র ভাষা সংগ্রাম পরিষদ গঠনের প্রস্তাবক ছিলেন জাতির পিতা। তিনি ২১শে ফেব্রুয়ারিকে UNESCO কর্তৃক আন্তর্জাতিক মাতৃভাষা দিবস হিসেবে স্বীকৃতি আদায়ের প্রেক্ষাপট তুলে ধরেন এবং একই সাথে মাননীয় প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনার সঠিক দিকনির্দেশনা ও বলিষ্ঠ নেতৃত্বে সেটি সম্ভব হয়েছে বলে উল্লেখ করেন। এই স্বীকৃতি দেয়ার পিছনে দু’জন কানাডা প্রবাসী বাংলাদেশির অবদানের কথা তিনি বিশেষভাবে উল্লেখ করেন। কানাডার হাউজ অব কমন্স কর্তৃক গত মার্চ ২০২৩ এ ২১শে ফেব্রুয়ারিকে আন্তর্জাতিক মাতৃভাষা দিবস হিসেবে স্বীকৃতি দিয়ে ‘International Mother Language Day Act’ পাস করায় কানাডার জনগণ ও সরকারকে তিনি বিশেষ ধন্যবাদ জানান। তিনি বাংলা ভাষার চর্চায় মাননীয় প্রধানমন্ত্রীর বিশেষ উদ্যোগসমূহের কথা উল্লেখ করেন। একুশের ভাষা আন্দোলন ও মুক্তিযুদ্ধের চেতনায় উজ্জীবিত হয়ে ২০৪১ সালের মধ্যে বাংলাদেশকে একটি উন্নত, সমৃদ্ধ দেশে পরিণত করার প্রয়াসে সকলকে একযোগে কাজ করার আহ্বান জানান।
Observance of ‘Shaheed Dibosh’ and ‘International Mother Language Day’ by Bangladesh High Commission in Ottawa.
Today, on 21 February 2024, Bangladesh High Commission in Ottawa observed ‘Shaheed Dibosh’ and ‘International Mother Language Day’ in a dignified and solemn manner through a day-long program. The day commenced with hoisting the national flag at half-mast, accompanied by the national anthem, by Minister and Acting High Commissioner Mr. Dewan Hossne Ayub in presence of other officers and officials, at Bangladesh House at 10:00 am. Following the flag hoisting, a special prayer was offered for the salvation of the souls of the language martyrs of 1952.
Thereafter, a special discussion, chaired by the Minister and Acting High Commissioner, was held at the High Commission’s Auditorium. The event was attended by members of the High Commission as well as Bangladeshi expatriates residing in various provinces of Canada. The ceremony began with the laying of a floral wreath on the portrait of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, followed by a minute of silence to honor all language martyrs and the martyrs of Bangladesh’s war of independence in 1971.
At the beginning, special messages from the Hon’ble President, Hon’ble Prime Minister, Hon’ble Foreign Minister were read out by the officers of the High Commission. Following this, a documentary on the language movement was screened. Then the invited guests shed light on the significance of the day. They emphasized on the importance of promotion of Bengali culture and language.
In his address, Minister and Acting High Commissioner Mr. Dewan Hossne Ayub paid tribute to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Shiekh Mujibur Rahman, all martyrs of the language movement, including Abul Barkat, Abdul Jabbar, Rafiquddin Ahmad, Abdus Salam and Shafiur Rahman and others, who sacrificed their lives for establishing Bangla as a state language of the then Pakistan. He recounted Bangabandhu’s significant involvement in the language movement, describing him as its main driving force, even enduring imprisonment for his leadership. The Acting High Commissioner also acknowledged the role of two Bangladeshi expatriates in Canada in the recognition of Bengali as International Mother Language Day and attributed its success to the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He also thanked the people and government of Canada for enacting the ‘International Mother Language Day Act’ by the House of Commons in March 2023, recognizing February 21st as International Mother Language Day. He emphasized the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s pivotal role in advancing Bengali language and urged collective efforts to make Bangladesh a developed, prosperous and Smart Bangladesh by 2041, drawing inspiration from the spirit of the language movement and the liberation war.
